12 Reasons Why It's A Twin Thing And You Wouldn't Understand

From womb mates to the real world, nothing is better than combating life with my partner-in-crime.

12 Reasons Why It's A Twin Thing And You Wouldn't Understand

Being a twin is, without a doubt, the greatest gift and blessing in the world. It's incredibly special to share more than your typical sibling bond with someone you already share everything with in the first place. It's your favorite fun fact to share about yourself, because you realize how lucky you are to have a best buddy since the womb (even though I am a minute older; not to brag). You and your twin have experienced everything--seriously, everything--as a dynamic duo. Whether you're fraternal or identical, there's an extraordinarily unique, strong connection that average siblings just don't understand.

1. Your names match one way or another, and usually start with the same letter.

2. You're frequently asked what it's like to be a twin, and whether or not you like it.

I'm not really sure what it's like to not have one, so it's pretty normal to me.

3. "Who's older? And by how much? If you're brother and sister, does that mean you're still identical?"

4. You trust nobody's judgement and advice more than your twin's.

Because no one can understand you more than the person who literally has been through everything with you.

5. You never have to remember their birthday, because it's the same as yours.

This makes for awesome parties. Double the trouble equals double the celebration.

6. No, we do not have twin telepathy, but sometimes we do this crazy thing where we say or think something at the same time.

It's just a twin thing.

7. Seriously, we can just look at each other and have this feeling and we know.

And sometimes that look leads to laughing at the dinner table and getting a 20-minute lecture from Mom on why *blank* is wrong.

8. "Did you dress in matching outfits when you were little?"

Of course.

Sometimes we still do.

9. "If I pinch you, will your twin feel it?"

No, but if I pinch you, then you would.

10. "You don't look anything alike! You have different eye colors!"

Fraternal, obviously. Not clones.

11. "Do you do everything together?"

Not everything, but trust us, we always find a way to pop ourselves in there to keep the weirdness alive. We are each our own person, no matter how similar we may be, but we're also very different.

12. You automatically have a built-in best friend.

They're your second half: the Zack to your Cody, the Tia to your Tamara, the Phil to your Lil, and the Mary-Kate to your Ashley. The best part is, you only have to walk to the room next door to hang out with them.

From our very first steps, to plowing through the mortifying middle school phases, all the way to our first day of college, there's no one else I would rather have to look back and burst out laughing with at all of our insane adventures. Being a twin is an indescribable relationship, outmatching any, in reality. We just get each other. We have the same DNA, we are a part of each other, and our souls are intertwined. It's just something that brings us much closer to each other than to anyone else. We've gone through many twists and turns together, but I simply cannot imagine anyone else walking by my side on this journey called life to pick me up when I fall down, physically and metaphorically.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
