13 Reasons To Join A Sorority
Sororitylyfe

It’s about that time of year again, when freshman girls head off the college for the first time. They’ve spent the summer debating whether or not to go through sorority recruitment. Thoughts enter their head about if they can afford it, if it’s worth it, and what would the people back home think of their decision. They’ve heard all the stereotypes and don’t know what to really expect. Other girls, sophomores to seniors, are thinking about joining a sorority too. They’ve been around for at least a year and have saw firsthand what being a sorority entails. There are also those who want nothing to do with Greek life. They have reasons beyond my understanding, but everyone has the right to do what they believe to be best for them. Being in a sorority for a year, I’ve never regretted my decision. I’ve seen what it means to be a sorority woman. Here are just a few reasons why I think you should consider going through sorority recruitment. It’s about that time of year again, when freshman girls head off the college for the first time. They have reasons beyond my understanding, but everyone has the right to do what they believe to be best for them. Being in a sorority for a year, I’ve never regretted my decision. I’ve seen what it means to be a sorority woman. Here are just a few reasons why I think you should consider going through sorority recruitment.

1. Friends

It's hard coming to college and not knowing too many people. You might have a small group of your high school friends with you, but more than likely you'll be alone that first day of school. Joining a sorority means instant friendship with genuine people. I didn't have to worry the first day of school, because I knew that I'd have sisters in class with me.

2. Personal Growth

Even the most outgoing people have room to grow. Being part of something so magnificent as a sorority has taught me how to grow as a person.

3. Advice

From picking the right professor to what stores to shop at, your sisters are there for you. You will have endless shoulders to cry on and points of view.

4. Support

From break ups to bad test grades, your sisters will be there to support you. They will cheer at you sporting events and be there when you need them the most.

5. Philanthropy

Nothing is more rewarding than giving back. Just giving a few hours of your time to others is an experience you'll never forget. Being able to see the smile on the face of the individual(s) you give back to is a reward in itself.

6. Connections

One of the coolest things about being in a sorority is the connections you have. These connections can be an alum who can help score you an awesome job to knowing a professor that will override you into their full class.

7. Academics

Despite how the movies portray Greek members, we have some of the highest GPA's on campus. Sorority women strive to do their best in all aspects of life. If you're struggling with a class, there is bound to be a sister who can help tutor you. Let's not forget about book either. Nothing beats having a sister who will lend you that $200 Calculus book so you don't have to buy it.

8. Values

Each sorority is founded upon a set of core values. These values are what each sorority stands for. They are very close to the heart of each member, and something that every girl strives to live by.

9. Reason to dress up

I'm not going to lie, I enjoy dressing up sometimes. Being in a sorority I have opportunities to do just that. It's the little things that make me smile sometimes.

10. The events

No matter what sorority you join, they will host some awesome events throughout the year. It can range from themed socials to awesome philanthropy events. There is always something to do with your sisters.

11. Crafts

Crafting is always fun and being in a sorority gives you an excuse to craft more often. From decorating sorority letters to making my future little sister canvases, there is always something to craft.

12. Rituals

Every sorority has secret rituals. These secrets are entrusted only to members of the organization. The rituals are what make the sorority them. They are the secrets that the founders left behind for the future members.

13. Big/little

Basically, when you join a sorority you will eventually get matched with a "Big" sister. She will be your mentor, best friend, and probably a total goofball. Later on, you can be given the opportunity to take a "Little" sister in the sorority. You will be to her a mentor and a friend, just like your Big is to you!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
