To all the moms out there. Thank you.
1. She always calls to check up on you.
When she hears an ambulance or a police siren, the first thing she thinks about if YOU. In the next 30 seconds you will either get a text, phone call, or both from mom asking 20 questions. Don’t get annoyed or frustrated, she just wants to make sure you aren’t hurt or being put into the back of a police car.
2. She tells you the God honest truth.
You think you have arm fat hanging over that dress? Well just ask mom. You think your butt looks too big in those jeans? Just ask mom. If you ask for the truth, don’t expect anything less from Mommy Dearest.
3. She picks you up when you are down.
Don’t think you can survive this semester? Are all the starts aligning not in your favor? Well, leave it to Mom to realign those stars to get you back on your feet! She is your biggest cheerleader and coach. She is your life motivator and it is her goal in life to see you be successful and happy.
4. She is always there for you when your feelings are hurt.
There is never a better shoulder to cry on than Mom’s shoulder. She will be the first to buy ice cream, movies, and cookie dough. She is completely ready at all times to be there for you, no matter where you are or what time of the day it is. You are two hours away? That is totally ok with Mom, she will be there in one in a half..
5. She can drink Fireball straight from the bottle.
As if you thought your Mom couldn’t be more perfect.
6. She doesn’t sugar coat anything.
If you want advice on ANYTHING, Mom will tell you how it is. If you are doing something wrong or if you messed up, she is there to keep you on track and keep you accountable. Don’t expect anything less.
7. When it comes to body guards, Moms are the best.
If anyone messes with her kids, all hell breaks loose. If you don’t think a woman can grow horns and claws, then just wait until the moment somebody hurts her babies. You may try and keep your business to yourself, but 100 percent of the time Mom always finds out and she will do whatever it takes to protect you. Someone made you cry? Mom will be right back, she has to make a phone call. Someone threatened you? Mom will already be taking out the baseball bat from the closet and asking for addresses.
8. She always knows exactly what to say
On those days where you don’t know what to do and you feel like life isn’t fair, Mom always knows what to say to make you feel better. Whether you need help with life or an assignment she always seems to know exactly what to say.
9. She pushes you outside your comfort zone.
Oh you feel comfortable? Well, let me just push you off this cliff. Mom’s are always willing to push you past your limits in order for you to learn something about yourself. She wants what is best for you and sometimes making you feel a little uncomfortable can give you experiences and opportunities that you never expected. Thanks, Mom.
10. She puts up with all of your shenanigans.
You may be a good child, but you are a pain in the butt every once in a while. We sometimes take our moms for granted and maybe we need to show them a little more appreciation. Make sure to apologize to your Mom when needed and always remind her you love her on a daily (hourly) basis.
11. She knows when to be a mom and when to be a friend.
She is the perfect person to go to for advice and she knows when to put her foot down. She has expectations of you, but she also doesn’t mind visiting a winery with you either.
12. She has to love you.
When you are a pain in the rear and being a total knucklehead, Mom will always love you. Even when you sometimes think she might kill you or that you disappointed her, she will always love you.
13. Most importantly, she is home.
The biggest thing I miss while at school is Home. I didn’t realize how much I would miss it until I was planted two hours away and expected to grow without the light and nourishment from my Mom. Whether she is visiting me here at EIU or I am going home for the weekend, I always feel right at home when I am with my Mom.
Thanks, Mom. For always being there for me and teaching me it isn’t about how many times you fall off the track, but how many times you stand up, brush off, and jump right back on. I am forever grateful for everything you have given me and taught me. I wouldn’t be the woman I am if it wasn’t for you. I love you, Mom.
