Sometimes the times are hard and we find ourselves in the middle of a mini life crisis asking ourselves how in God's name are we going to survive this, let alone the rest of our lives. Everyone has their own way of powering through the pain, but I think a big thing we overlook is how important a good quote is to heal the soul.

I'm not going to even pretend that I don't love reading quotes and that I don't spend a chunk of my time looking up interesting quotes on the internet. When I've had a rough day, need a little motivation to get my life together or want some inspiration, I look up quotes. They're little snippets of encouragement and have a way of changing your outlook on life in only a few sentences. The real way to cure any emotional turmoil is through a quote that gets you, a quote the touches your soul, a quote that is exactly the words you were thinking but didn't know how to say.

Here are some great quotes to help you through the week:

1. "If we wait until we're ready, we'll be waiting for the rest of our lives."

This is from Daniel Handler's "Lemony Snicker." I think it's a good reminder to go for whatever you're too nervous to do. We're never fully ready for anything, so there's no better time than now.

2.

Oscar Wilde is full of great quotes, but this quote from "Lady Windermere's Fan" is my favorite. We're all struggling but it doesn't mean we can't enjoy ourselves

3. "All endings are beginnings. We just don't know it yet."

If you know me, you know I'm terrible at letting things go. I hate endings, but it helps if I remind myself it means something else is beginning. Mitch Albom's quote from "The Five People You Meet In Heaven" is always a good reminder.

4. "You never know what worse luck your bad luck saved you from."

I actually just found this on the internet. It's from Cormac McCarthy's "No Country For Old Men." Things happen for a reason, and something that seemed bad at the time could be saving us from something much worse.

5.

"If you have good thoughts, they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely."

This is probably my all-time favorite quote from Roald Dahl's "The Twits." A positive mind is always a good thing. If someone thinks I'm too friendly or too happy or too enthusiastic, I just think about this quote and how lovely I look and feel.

6. "In the end, always laugh. And do not lose this strange habit of having faith in life."

This Daniel C. L. quote is the best honestly. Laughter in the best medicine, and no matter how hard things feel or how scared we are of the future or how many times things don't work out how we want, we shouldn't lose faith that it'll all be OK eventually.

7.

When I need a good pick-me-up, Hemingway always has my back. I love this quote. We've all been hurt and scared and lost and broken, but it's a part of what makes us so great. The next time you are broken, remember it's just the light getting in.

8.

This Jack Canfield quote is perfect for people like me, who are always scared to make big (but good) changes. I like the idea that our lives can only get better if we decide to face our fears.

9. "Perhaps one did not want to be loved so much as to be understood."

Not only including this because it's a great quote, but because I feel like after this election, a lot of people could stand to read George Orwell's "1984."

But mostly, I like how the quote says it's not always about love. It's about being understood and related to. The best way to love someone is to understand them.

10. "She quietly expected great things to happen to her, and no doubt that’s one of the reasons why they did."

Listen to Zelda Fitzpatrick, and expect the best for yourself, because that's how you get it.

11.

From my favorite John Green novel (and only novel that has yet to be made into a movie and ruined through overexposure), this "Looking For Alaska" quote is a great way to let go of whatever anger you're holding onto. Sometimes it's hard for me to forgive the people who hurt me, but I don't want to carry around anger. It only hurts myself. I like the idea that the way to find peace is to forgive.

12. "Please believe that things are good with me, and even when they're not, they will be soon enough."

I've read Stephen Chbosky's "Perks of Being a Wallflower" a million times. This quote was always one of my favorites. Things won't always be great, but we will always be okay. Have faith that we can handle anything thrown our way.

13.

Finishing with one of my favorite quotes from my favorite book, "The Little Prince." I think it's important to remember that to hurt each other is inevitable sometimes, but it's important to still care. The reward is worth the risk.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
