You might think that a show about an alien who travels through time and space wouldn't be relatable, but you would be wrong. "Doctor Who" might have a lot of aliens in it, but both the aliens and humans have plenty of quote worthy lines. Below are just 13 of them.
1. “I am and always will be the optimist, the hoper of far-flung hopes and the dreamer of improbable dreams.” – 11th Doctor
It isn't always easy to be optimistic, but it's worth trying. We're almost taught as we grow up to not be too optimistic; we end up being afraid to get our hopes up, only to be let down. But if you don't allow yourself to dream big, how do you expect to do all of the amazing things you're capable of doing? Because I guarantee you are capable of more than you realize.
2. “Courage isn’t just a matter of not being frightened, you know. It’s being afraid and doing what you have to do anyway.” – 3rd Doctor
Too often we mistake having courage or being brave as being absent of fear. On the contrary, it's the very opposite. Which makes sense if you really think about it. If you weren't afraid of the thing you're going to do, then you wouldn't be considered brave for doing it, would you?
3. “The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.” – 11th Doctor
When bad things happen to us, we tend to forget about all of the good. So try looking for the good in life, even when it seems impossible.
4. “Sometimes the only choices you have are bad ones, but you still have to choose.” – 12th Doctor
5. “We all change. When you think about it, we're all different people all through our lives, and that's okay, that's good. You've gotta keep moving, so long as you remember all the people that you used to be.” – 11th Doctor
6. “Some people live more in 20 years than others do in 80. It's not the time that matters, it's the person.” – 10th Doctor
7. “Violence doesn’t end violence, it extends it.” – 11th Doctor
8. "Anger is always the shortest distance to a mistake." – Madame Vastra
We should always be careful of what we do while we're angry. Often times, anger clouds our judgement, and we end up regretting what we say or do while influenced by it.
9. "...And she loved him, she did. She completely adored him. Spent all day long talking about him." -- "Cause he never looked at her twice. I mean, he liked her, but that was it. And she wasted years pining after him, years of her life, 'cause while he was around, she never looked at anyone else. And I told her, I always said to her, time and time again, I said, 'Get out.' So this is me, getting out.” – Martha Jones
10. “We’re all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?” – 11th Doctor
11. “For some people, small, beautiful events are what life is all about!” – 5th Doctor
It may sound corny, but too often we genuinely don't take the time to appreciate the small things in life. We get so focused on going after the "big" things we think will make us the happiest that we forget that everyday things can, and should, make us happy as well. It's harder to find something to be happy about on some days more than others, but if you don't try to take the time to appreciate and be happy over the "small" things and instead only chase after the "big" things, you'll spend so much of your life unnecessarily unhappy.
12. “Because every time you see them happy you remember how sad they’re going to be. And it breaks your heart. Because what’s the point in them being happy now if they’re going to be sad later? The answer is, of course, because they are going to be sad later.” – 11th Doctor
13. “There's no point in being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes.” – 4th Doctor
Being an adult shouldn't mean going through life completely serious all of the time, so don't feel like you have to be! Life is too hard to not be a kid or silly at least every once in a while.
