There are a number of reasons why being an out-of-state student sets us apart from the rest of the university. Not only do we come from a different state, we come from a different background entirely. Going through college when the place we call home is more than just a drive away can be quite a unique experience that brings about several unshared confessions.

1. We’ve calculated the exact distance it takes to get back home.

2. When a reference to our home state is made, we get way too excited.

3. We’re always FaceTiming our family, friends, and pets.

4. We’re all too familiar with air transportation.

5. Mail from home is like Christmas morning.

6. We're often reminiscing about memories made in our home state.

7. We get asked a million times why we chose to come to school here.

8. We're still trying to get used to the "fashion norms" here.

9. We secretly still root for our state’s professional sports teams.

10. Adjusting to the weather is sometimes difficult.

11. We roll our eyes every time someone in-state complains about being homesick.

12. The “updates” we text our best friends end up turning into short novels.

13. At the end of the day, we can't wait to return, because there's just no place like home.
