12 Ways To Spruce Up Your Dorm Room
  • Get a plant (at least a fake one) - Try something low maintenance that doesn’t require too much care. Succulent terrariums and enclosed terrariums are beautiful and only require light watering about once a week.
  • Get a fish - Only if you are responsible enough to clean the bowl and feed it regularly! Bettas are beautiful fresh water fish that come in a variety of colors. They can be kept in a medium sized bowl, which some campuses allow.
  • Washi tape art - This colored or patterned tape is perfect for making geometric wall art or to frame photos and posters on your wall. It removes easily, leaves no residue, and the color options are endless.
  • Hang a wreath - Forget the idea that wreaths are only for Christmas. There are so many non-holiday related wreaths to be found at home décor stores. You can find wreaths that are floral, made of branches, entwined with vines, and even with fake succulents. If you are crafty you can easily make one as well.
  • Storage boxes – Just because they are functional it doesn’t mean they have to be ugly. Paint a pattern using painters’ tape to get perfect lines, or use fabric or peel and stick wallpaper to cover it all up.
  • Make your own ironing table – Get a tray table and fit it with a layer of cotton batting first and then choose a nice piece of fabric to put on top and bring the whole thing together. Tray tables are small and fold flat so they can be stored easily under the bed.
  • Empty tea cans – They’re great to store small items like rubber bands, paper clips, pens, and pencils. The cans usually have a nice design already and they give the room a vintage feel.
  • A hamper - Forget those plastic or foldable mesh hampers, get yourself a wicker or canvas hamper so that it adds to the décor instead of detracting from it. To make it easier, many canvas hampers come with handles so that you can easily take it to the laundry room.
  • Flameless candles - Get yourself some beautiful lanterns or make your own with glass jars and some glass paint. Since candles aren’t allowed in dorms, flameless candles are the perfect alternative.
  • Statuettes and figures - Get yourself some cute statues, of animals like an owl, bear, or anything else you’d like, then spray paint it white. Now you have a minimalist decoration that won’t clash with the color scheme of your room.
  • Get a rug - Dorm room floors are rarely pretty, but a nice rug next to your bed can make the floor a little less drab, and a lot warmer for when you step out of bed. Shag rugs are difficult to clean and can be a hit or miss for your room, so shorter thread rugs are a better option.
  • Sleep on a cloud - The mattress on those dorm beds are not very comfortable - a mattress topper can help with that. Memory foam feels great, and getting the topper won’t cost too much, and you can use it over and over so it is worth the investment.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
