12 Times Girls Fell In Love With Their Sorority

It seems impossible to find a group of people as weird as you, but I promise they're out there.

12 Times Girls Fell In Love With Their Sorority

It's hard to listen to everyone who tells you to "trust the process" of formal recruitment, and it's scary to think that maybe you're not making the right choice. I promise you, those fears quickly fade away as you run to your new home on bid day and enter a new sisterhood. There are always moments when you'll fall in love with your sorority all over again, and girls from all different chapters joined together to share how they know they're right where they belong.

1. "I knew I was in the right house when I saw my sisters rolling around in the garden in front of our house for the sake of philanthropy. Our theme was Holes, like the movie, and we ran out of spray paint. We didn't have a lot of time before we were supposed to leave for the event. Girls didn't think twice before they ran outside and started rolling around. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard in my life."

Dana Caruso, Delta Zeta (Alpha Theta Chapter)

2. "The first time I met one of my sisters during my freshman year, she greeted me with the 'grandpa wave.' She has a theory, one which we've found to be true, that all grandpas wave at the camera even though it's a picture and not a video. She does it in pictures all the time and everyone always thinks she's weird but it's always hilarious. As soon as I saw her do this, I knew we were going to be best friends. We're seniors now, and she still does it, and it still cracks me up as much as it did the first time I saw it. I really don't think I ever would have made it through these past three years without Claire and all of my other sisters by my side. They make me want to be a better person and push me to my full potential. I am forever grateful for the sincere friendship that Pi Beta Phi has brought into my life."

Alicia Klingerman, Pi Beta Phi (Indiana Zeta Chapter)

3. "I have loved my chapter since the first time I rushed there, but there was one incidence that made me fall deep in love with Alpha Phi. A boy tweeted something about my chapter that made us all laugh so hard. He said he heard we weren't "allowed to wear sweatpants on the first floor" of our house. Yes, we have a beautiful home, but that statement was hilarious to all of us. Our first floor has comfy couches that girls watch the Bachelor on in their robes and pajamas weekly or spend hours studying in their sweats in our first floor study room. Our president's reaction to the tweet was my favorite part! She tweeted the boy a picture of herself, in sweatpants, on top of our piano on the FIRST floor. I loved this so much because it's totally something I would do, that's how I knew I made the right choice choosing my chapter! It showed me how light hearted and fun the girls were and that it's okay to not take life so seriously!"

Raychal Asuras, Alpha Phi (Delta Mu Chapter)

4. "People always describe my chapter as 'chill.' I know some mean it in a negative way and some as a positive, but either way I'll take it as a compliment. During preference day of recruitment I was torn in many different directions and was a slight emotional wreck. I went into Delta Gamma and had the most light hearted, relaxed, and comfortable conversation that I had all of rush week. At that point, I knew that it was the place for me. After every meeting, event, gathering, hang out, I never leave without having a stomach ache from laughter. I have learned from all my sisters how to relax and not take everything so seriously. We are funny, weird, we go with the flow, we like to eat pizza, and we love to chill. Being 'chill' is the reason I fell in love with my sorority!"

Sydney Walker, Delta Gamma (Delta Beta Chapter)

5. "I decided to go through formal sorority recruitment my first semester at Ball State University. On the last day of recruitment, I knew Kappa Delta was where I belonged. I could feel the love and support those women had for one another. It was more than a friendship, it was a sisterhood and this sisterhood was something I had to be a part of. I spent four years as an active Kappa Delta member. Each year I got closer and closer with my sisters and I finally realized I had found my best friends, my bridesmaids, and another family. That's why Kappa Delta. Senior year came around and we couldn't be more excited for the year to come! My pledge class and I were about to have the best year yet. In October 2014, our pledge class sister was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer. She has always been the glue within our friend group. She knew how to make you laugh, be there when you cried, and support you through anything. She's my hero. My sorority immediately came together to help her fight this. There was no way she was going to go through this alone. That's why Kappa Delta. I fell in love with Kappa Delta again. We raised almost $10,000 in a month for her and her expenses. Greek Life at Ball State even put on a benefit banquet in her honor! That's when I realized I made the best decision of my life to go greek and join Kappa Delta. It's been 9 months now and she's doing better than ever! Kappa Delta helped her and our friends more than I can ever explain. That's why Kappa Delta."

Alex Parrish, Kappa Delta (Zeta Kappa Chapter)

6. "I knew I ended up in the right house shortly after getting my bid. One of my sisters had a huge wooden "UK" sign from a fraternity party. Somehow it had gone missing from her room, and another sister said that she recognized a guy carrying the same sign into her dorm late that night. After conferencing and agreeing on a plan to reclaim what we felt was rightfully ours, several of us took him by surprise and surrounded him at the table he was doing work at in our dorm. We jokingly/awkwardly interrogated him until he finally admitted defeat, gave us our sign back, and stormed off. This was the very first time I knew my sisters would always have my back no matter what crazy situations we get into!"

Samantha Neff, Alpha Gamma Delta (Kentucky Epsilon Chapter)

7. "When I was at Relay For Life, one of my sisters grabbed my hand and pulled me up. We started dancing and singing at the top of our lungs. We did laps for a good half hour, and just enjoyed each other's company, not worrying what was going on around us. At that moment, I didn't have a care in the world and knew I had chosen the right sorority. They are my people."

Ciara Bright, Zeta Tau Alpha (Lambda Epsilon Chapter)

8. "My twittle and I are so inseparable that we actually got voted 'Conjoined Twins' at one of our events. In the beginning, we were forced to be twins just because we wanted the same big, but it's like we were meant to be best friends. No other girl in my sorority could be my other half the way she is. We are so ditzy and laugh at everything, and whenever I don't show up to an event everyone automatically knows that she isn't going to show up either. We are the definition of a package deal."

Jasmine Richardson, Phi Mu (Rho Alpha Chapter)

9. "One time a couple of my sisters and I packed into my car and went sledding on Slayter Hill. On the way home, I let one of my sisters drive and she decided to drive through a huge snow bank and obviously we got stuck in the snow. We were trying to dig out the wheels while slipping and falling in the snow, and it just wasn't working. Eventually a stranger came and pulled us out, but all of us trying to push my car out of knee deep snow while dying laughing was one of the most fun times I have had so far at Purdue, and I have my sisters to thank for all of it."

Madi Plumer, Alpha Xi Delta (Alpha Eta Chapter)

10. "Somehow my explanation for everything became 'Chill, I'm so glad to be a Pi Beta Phi' because of a song our chapter sings. I found a group of girls that know how to just have fun and that I love to be around. I have the craziest adventures when I'm with my sorority sisters, and I wouldn't want to cheer on the Cats with anyone else."

Katlyn Callahan, Pi Beta Phi (Kentucky Beta Chapter)

11. "The moment when I knew Alpha Chi was where I was meant to be would have to be during my big little reveal. During reveal night, all of the Greek families were passing down "family heirlooms" to the newest little or littles. My family didn't have anything meaningful to pass down to me, so I was given a big styrofoam head instead. It was painted and had a lovely, interesting make-over. It had been decided that each new little had to add something to "Hera" the head, so my addition was a nose ring. This new found tradition is not only brilliant and random, but it shows the kind of dysfunction and humor my Greek family enjoys. This was probably the best way to come into the family, and it will always make for great conversation when someone sees a large head in the newest little's dorm room."

Sydney Orr, Alpha Chi Omega (Gamma Mu Chapter)

12. As for me? I joined Delta Zeta (Alpha Theta Chapter), and I have no doubt in my mind that I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be. I knew it was perfect for me the moment I ran to the house on bid day to find everyone in tanks and face paint with speakers blaring in the front yard while every other house was in dresses and heels.

I knew it was perfect for me when I saw the love for philanthropy in my chapter after we raised over $40,000 #FTK for DanceBlue and won the Golden Matrix for the second year in a row. I felt so lucky to be one the dancers that represented our sorority during my freshman year, and it helped me grow even closer with my sister while we did work for a greater cause.

I knew it was perfect for me when the girls I met on bid day and during my first few weeks quickly became my very best friends. I can't count how many times going halfsies on hot dogs and nachos at Keeneland ended up being the only reason we went. I've never known such amazing friendship, and I can't put into words how much they've done for me.

I, like all the other girls on this list, could go on and on about how amazing and funny I think my chapter is. However, the point of this is not to showcase certain houses but rather to show that you could also have this kind of bond and experience with a group of girls. I'm so happy that girls in different houses and chapters have found the same happiness in their sorority as I have found in mine. I highly recommend trying out greek life, even if you are skeptical in the beginning. There are endless adventures and memories out there, and who better to share them with than your sisters? Go greek!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
