12 Thoughts After Watching Stranger Things

Spoiler alert. If you have yet to watch this show, then I suggest that you don't read the rest of this article.

The newly released Netflix original series, Stranger Things, has been taking the nation by storm these past few months. Stranger Things wittingly combines mystery, horror and sci-fi into an alluringly captivating tv show. At first I was a bit hesitant on starting the series. I'm not very keen on watching shows that make you "jump" out of your seat, and shows pertaining to aliens and things of that nature. However, after being subjected to the constant hype this show has been generating both online and offline, I decided to give it a try - and I was blown away.

I would have never expected to find myself so immersed in a tv show of this calibre. I finished it in less than two days (I mean there are only eight episodes in total). I found myself connected to the characters, and I instantly started theorizing what could happen next. My heart broke for Joyce (portrayed by the remarkable Winona Ryder) as she desperately sought after her son who was trapped in an alternative dimension known as the "upside down" by this horrible monster. I was even disheartened, like many, at what they did to poor Barb who was also taken by the same monster - yet they just let her character die off without any proper closure. Additionally, I am humbled by the shows decision to portray the story from an 80's perspective. I think it's something different and it's cool seeing a modern-day show set in a different time zone. Especially a show with such a riveting storyline.

Anyway, after finishing the meager eight episode season, I have a million thoughts running through my head about what's going to happen next. Moreover, I narrowed those million thoughts/opinions to a list of twelve, and I'm sharing them with you below:

1. Is the monster seriously dead?

2. Is Eleven still alive, or is Hopper leaving the eggo waffles a lost cause?

3. Has Will been affected by the upside down in some sinister way?

4. Will anyone else be affected by Will returning from the upside down?

5. Will Barb's death/disappearance ever be justified?

6. Did the monster represent Eleven's inner demons?

7. Why did Hopper get into that car with those sketchy people towards the end? Is he plotting something?

8. Why is Nancy still with Steve?

9. Will anyone else be abducted next season?

10. How will the town respond to Will's return and the knowledge of the alternate dimension?

11. Will the government still be super shady or will there be a new villain?

12. Will we find out more about Eleven's past, or is her character terminated?

Regardless of all the questions and thoughts running through my head, the one thing I'm sure of is that the wait for season two is going to be extremely tedious. So I suggest that if you're willing to give this spectacular show a go, take your time and watch it slowly. Don't do what I did because eight episodes will go by in the blink of an eye and a year long wait for more episodes is nothing to joke about.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
