It seemed this year after Halloween we almost skipped right over Thanksgiving and went straight for Christmas. Thankfully turkey day still got it’s glory, but what happens the minute it’s over?

1. ABC’s 25 Days of Christmas Begins

Twenty-five days of endless Christmas movies from Harry Potter to Rudolf and everything in between.

2. Lights!

The neighborhoods magically light up with decorations and stringed lights across the roof. The best part of the day is when the sun goes down and the lights turn on. Even better, here in Austin, Zilker park puts on The Trail of Lights for the biggest christmas gathering in the city.

3. Red Starbucks Cups Become Relevant

Controversy or not, these cups should really make their debut after the Fall holidays.

4. Christmas Music Starts Playing Everywhere

Your radio presets all of the sudden are playing Jingle Bell Rock and you can’t get away from Baby It’s Cold Outside in any department store.

5. Hanukkah Happens

This alternative festival of lights usually takes some place after Thanksgiving and before Christmas. Shout out to eight days of latkes, presents and dreidel!

6. Every Artist Puts Out A Version of Their Favorite Christmas Song

Praying for a secret new Justin Bieber Christmas album this year.

7. Ugly Christmas Sweater Parties

This is the strangest tradition of gathering with friends in the ugliest possible sweater, eating cookies and spreading holiday cheer.

8. Egg Nog Flavored Everything

Lattes, cookies, cakes, yogurt, candy, beverages and more. Peppermint flavored everything joins the party around this time as well.

9. Christmas Trees Pop Up Everywhere

Certain public places hang their star atop a big, beautiful Christmas tree. This leaves you wondering, was that tree always there and somehow it went unnoticed?

10. Advent Calendars

Countdowns to the big days are filled with chocolate and little presents (just in case you didn't eat enough dessert at Thanksgiving).

11. Santa Hits The Mall

Nothing is better than shopping for presents and seeing the big man in the middle of the mall taking pictures with all the little kids (pictures they will never want later in life).


The best part about the Thanksgiving holiday ending is the shopping that comes right after. And for the lazier of us all, cyber Monday offers all the best sales online so you can shop from the comfort of your own bed.
