As Mother's Day approaches, let's all take a moment to appreciate everything our moms do for us. Although we aren't in kindergarten anymore and don't need our moms to take care of us 24/7, there are still those classic phone calls we make to our mothers on a weekly basis. We all cherish the freedom we have living away from home, but let's face it, adulting is hard! We're glad to know our moms are there to make the transition a little easier.
1. Doing Laundry
Laundry is tricky. It's never just a matter of wash and dry, but Mom always seems to know the answer. "What temperature water should I use for my sweaters?" "Am I allowed to dry these?" "But what is REALLY considered light and dark?"
2. Asking Medical Advice
The doctor is a LAST resort. Your mom always seemed to know how to make you feel better growing up, so you consider her to have a medical degree. "When is it considered a fever?" "If I have a stomach ache and a headache and a stuffy nose, I'm probably dying, right?"
3. Making Doctor Appointments
When Doctor Mom can't diagnose you properly, it's time to do the scariest thing of all: call and make an appointment. "Which doctor do I go to for this?" "Do I have to bring my insurance information and social security number?" Sometimes it's just better if she makes the appointment for you.
4. Grocery Shopping
Although you've been grocery shopping with your mom a thousand times, going on your own is still overwhelming. You anxiously wander through the aisle and eventually wind up on the phone with your mom. "But what brand of pasta sauce do we buy at home?" "Am I allowed to buy HALF a bunch of bananas instead of a whole bunch?"
5. Cooking
You finally have your shopping done and now it's time to actually cook something. "How long do I have to thaw something before it's considered 'thawed'?" "Is this allowed in the microwave?" As hard as you try, it never seems to taste like her cooking.
6. Banking
Being financially independent can be awesome, but it does come with some added responsibility. When it's time to pay off student loans or when tax season rolls around, Mom seems to be the expert. "Is my credit score good?" "Do I even have credit?" "Why do I have to fill this I-9 form out for everything?"
7. Sending Pictures Of Your Pets
Mom basically has Snapchat for the sole purpose of sending you pictures of your furry babies. She knows you miss her a lot, but she also has accepted that you miss your pets equally as much.
8. Fashion Advice
When you lived at home it was easy enough to have your outfits approved by Mom. Now you have to strategically take photos of your options and wait anxiously for a response before you go out with friends or head to an interview.
9. Remembering Important Family Events
What day is your brother's graduation again? Did your uncle's birthday already happen? Calling Mom discreetly to make sure you haven't missed anything important happens more frequently than you'd like to admit (but of course, we'd never forget Mother's Day)!
10. Passwords
This is crucial for when you need to procrastinate. "What's the password for your Netflix account?" "Do we have Hulu?" "Do we have Hulu Plus?"
11. When You're Too Stressed To Deal
Sometimes life seems to cave in on you and when that happens, your first instinct is to reach for the phone. A conversation with Mom always helps because she is your biggest advocate and best friend in times of "crisis".
12. When You Just Miss Your Mom
You find yourself looking for excuses for reasons to call, but ultimately you don't need an excuse. Just pick up the phone and tell the woman who raised you how much you appreciate her.
