As a college student, there's a lot of big events that used to consume your life as a high schooler that you don't have the time or energy to worry about in college. To balance our packed schedule of clubs, studying and social events, something's got to give. These are a list of things that no longer matter once you become a college student.
1. President's Day weekend.
In high school, this meant you had one or two days off of school. As a college student, you could care less about a bunch of our founding fathers' birthdays. Really, any holiday that we don't get off becomes irrelevant.
2. The Grammys, Oscars or any award show.
In college, you don't really have the time to see the movies nominated or listen to the full albums, so the days of obsessing or even voting for your favorite artist are long over.
3. Looking good every day.
In college, there are many possibilities why someone might look horrible one day: constant sickness that passes from student to student, picking comfort/warmth over style, waking up 20 minutes too late, going to gym after class or my favorite excuse, laziness.
4. Eating a healthy breakfast.
You know, we try our best, but some days this is just impossible, especially when our bed is calling our name.
5. Having a balanced diet.
Chances are you will be surviving off of Easy Mac and cold pizza, so getting all of your vitamins every day is just not going to happen.
6. Grooming yourself.
This sounds gross, but all I'm saying is with the college budget, getting your nails done and eyebrows waxed is no longer a weekly activity. We do what we need to do, but tweezers and crappy nail polish become your best friends.
7. Summer.
In high school, summer meant a whole two and a half months to do nothing but sleep. Cool. But as a college student, the summer is actually a stressful concept. Everyone expects you to get a job, internship, take classes, ANYTHING for that ever-important résumé.
8. Daily world news.
I am always a day behind any big political scandal, and my source of news is primary through BuzzFeed, Twitter and the Wall Street Journal Snapchat story.
9. Keeping up with the latest trends.
Again, college life doesn't leave that much time to know what trends are in and out. Honestly, we college kids usually just stick to the classics and hope for the best.
10. Drama.
The biggest drama I've experienced at college so far is the fight over who is going to get the last cheese stick (this is a very big deal).
11. Frenemies.
Once you get passed all of the high school bullshit, no one will care enough to be fake friends with you in college. If someone doesn't like you, you will know.
12. Other peoples opinions.
Now that you are no longer under the watchful gaze of your parents or family friends, you can kind of do whatever you want. You can form your own opinions and make your own decisions without having to worry about what so-and-so will say about it. It's pretty exhilarating.
