12 Things We Miss About Home When We Move Back To College
NSHP

As the days get shorter, the nights get longer, and the final days of summer trickle down, we can't help but feel a little excited and sad to move back to college in a week. We're excited for college because we miss our friends, we miss the school spirit and all the chants at football games, we miss our freedom, and we miss the night life of our college town. However, we can't help but feel a little sad that the school year is quickly approaching because there are so many things we are going to miss about home.

1. Home-cooked meals.

We all grow up watching movies and reading articles that portray college food as inedible and disgusting, but I was pleased with my college's cafeteria food. When I moved home for the summer, sometimes I found myself missing the endless stir-fry and fettuccine alfredo days. However, despite how good college food can be, nothing beats mom or dad's home-cooked meals.

2. Our dog.

We can all agree that there is no better cuddle buddy than our dog. When we move back to college, we realize how empty our bed feels without our dog sleeping in the middle of it.

3. Our parents.

They might get on our nerves sometimes, vice versa, but we all miss our parents when we move back to college. For the first 18 years of our lives, we grow up seeing our parents every day; it's a bit of an adjustment when we move back to college.

4. Sleeping in our own bed.

Despite how comfy our college bed can be, no bed will ever compare to our bed at home.

5. Our dog.

Did I mention that already? If so, it deserves to be mentioned twice because sometimes we miss our dog more than we miss most people.

6. Our high school friends.

After another summer of memories and reliving our high school days, it's hard saying goodbye to all of our best friends as we each depart to different colleges around the country.

7. Sleeping in.

If there's one thing I'm not ready for, THE 8AMS. As soon as we move back to college, classes start and sleeping in stops. Get ready for the all-nighters and few hours of sleep, college kids.

8. A stress-free life.

As great and carefree college is, no one misses having a pile of homework on their desk. Sure, we all had jobs and internships during the summer, but it wasn't as stressful as school can be because we didn't have a pile of homework staring us down.

9. Our dog.

Did I mention that already? #sorrynotsorry

10. Lake days, warm summer nights, and tan lines.

Before we know it, the snow will be piled high, we'll be able to see our breath when we breathe, the Ugg boots will be out, and we'll be so pale that we'll look like we're from the North Pole.

11. Our childhood.

As the years pass and we get older, our childhood slips further and further away and adulthood gets closer and closer.

12. Home.

When we move back to college, we miss everything that makes home feel like home.

As we get older, we find ourselves saying goodbye to everything that makes home feel like home more and more. Before we know it, we'll be graduated from college, living on our own, and only ever returning home for short visits. Going back to college means that we're getting older, our childhood starts slipping further away, and adulthood begins approaching us in the fast lane. While we are all excited to get back to our college town, we all know we're going to miss home a little bit.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
