We all know a person that takes his or her part-time job far too seriously. I shamefully admit to being that person.
It’s crazy, though! Your life begins to revolve around your work schedule (which, as a student, should not be a priority). Habits form, and you start to recognize the following:
1. You’re the first one people go to when they need a shift covered.
Because 12 out of 13 times, your answer is an enthusiastic “yes.”
2. In fact, it’s shocking when you’re the one requesting off.
Believe it or not, you do have obligations that don’t involve your job.
3. You have killer time management skills.
Between class, homework, extracurriculars, sleep, your social life, AND your work schedule, you’ve mastered the art of distributing time accordingly.
4. Coffee is your lifeline.
You’re usually carrying a cup in with you before every class, shift, etc. How else are you expected to go effortlessly from one thing to the other?
5. You don’t know what to do with yourself on days off.
That’s, like, so many hours of free time!
6. So you usually end up visiting work.
It’s just really hard to stay away.
7. A day working a double shift is a day well spent.
In all honesty, what else would you have done on a Saturday? Slept in? Pfft.
8. Your friends get confused when you aren’t there.
“I went to _____ the other night and you weren’t working! Are you okay?!”
Yeah, you just stopped in on my day off.
9. “Sorry, I was at work” replaces the “sorry, I was taking a nap/in the shower” text.
It’s the perfect excuse to avoid replying.
10. Pay day is like hitting the lottery.
It’s the one moment that proves all of those extra shifts (literally) paid off.
11. You constantly mutter to yourself how much you hate your job and your plans to quit.
This typically occurs when your feet are aching, the customers are being rude, and you’re fed up with the fact that you still have two hours to go.
12. But the thought of never returning makes you want to cry.
You, along with everyone else, know perfectly well that you’ll never, ever leave.
