12 Things College Students Do When Spring Break Is Near

Spring Break is finally here..yay!! For college students, leading up to spring break can be the most painful and slowest few weeks of your life. The week leading up to spring break is usually midterm week for most colleges, so everyone is usually already on edge for the most part. Even though here in central New York, it is currently freezing and not spring weather, I just want break to be here! Here are 12 things that college students feel or do when spring break is near.

1. Overall, you just need a break from seeing the same people every...single...day.

Here at Naz, I see the same people every single day whether it be in my classes, walking to a class, at the CAB, etc. Sometimes, you can get really sick of it.

2. You wonder why we do not have a mid winter break like we did back in high school.

3. The week leading up to spring break is AGONIZING. You just want to go home.

4. You become very bitter about the cold weather, because spring is on your mind twenty four seven, even though here in central new York, it is probably still going to be snowing, or just really cold and windy.

I swear I have seasonal depression or something because all I have wanted more than anything is for it to be 65 degrees and sunny...but nope, it is going to be between 15-30 degrees throughout my spring break. Great.

5. You sit down for a meal, absolutely exhausted, and say "wow, it has been a really long week", and it is only Monday.

Honestly though, If I got a nickel for every time I said "wow, it has been a really long week" and it is only Monday, I'd be making millions.

6. A couple days before you leave to go home for spring break, you come to the realization that you should have exercised. But instead you continue eating that big bag of potato chips that is sitting on your counter.

7. All of your teachers are nice enough to cancel class the day before break, except for that one professor who insists on taking attendance.

8. When that one professor assigns homework to do over spring break...

9. It is Thursday night, you're doing homework, and because of pure exhaustion, you start pounding your head into your homework...literally.

10. You start whining "I DO NOT WANT TO GO" when getting up for classes in the morning.

You start whining, and then you get to that point where you literally have to throw yourself out of bed. Yeah, it's bad.

11. It is Friday, and all you can think about now is getting out of your last class to head home for spring break!

12. The time has finally arrived...Happy Spring Break!

"I've only slept nine hours over the past four days, so I'm right on the verge of a nervous breakdown." - Leslie Knope

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

1. When you've finally found the energy to leave your dorm room and walk into the lib like

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
