Coming home from college for the summer is an uncomfortable transition. Suddenly, you're back to hanging out with your high school friends and getting "where are you" texts from your parents like college never even happened. A lot of things drive you crazy while being home, and these 12 comments and questions are definitely included.
1. "How were finals?"
I only cried six times so they were only moderately traumatic.
2. "So what's your major?"
I totally understand that this question is a good gateway to small talk, but I've been asked this about 700 times.
3. "When will you unpack?"
I probably won't because I'm still in denial that I'm actually staying home for longer than a weekend.
4. "You don't need to stay out so late."
I operate on my own schedule during the school year. Sorry. It's just out of habit.
5. "You should start working out."
Honestly, you're right.
6. "We should get lunch sometime and catch up."
Let's just be real with each other. We aren't ever going to make time to hang out.
7. "Watch your language."
I'm really not trying to be offensive. Cussing has practically become involuntary at this point.
8. "You spend too much money on food."
I don't have a meal plan right now, and I'm constantly hungry. What else should I do?
9."You should get a job."
I know it's annoying to hear me complain how broke I am, but I want to spend my break appropriately by taking an actual break.
10. "_________ and you should date."
Just because you've seen pictures of us together on Facebook doesn't mean that we should be anything more than friends.
11. "How many naps did you take today?"
Five because I only slept three hours last night. Between the parties on the weekends and the late nights of studying on the weekdays, I've practically become nocturnal.
12. "When do you go back?"
I know I'm annoying, but I honestly will miss being with the people I love. It's no fun thinking about going back to school when I have to leave them and go back to taking hard classes.
