Although most camps are different, we can all agree on a few commonalities. I think the workers over at Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch do a fantastic job of portraying said difficulties and feats faced working at a summer camp.
1. Getting your campers to listen to you.
We all know young kids have the attention span of a peanut and repeating yourself or raising your voice never seems to do the trick.
2. Forcing them to eat more than just their dessert.
They might try to convince you that an apple and a pudding cup are equally nutritious, but don't be fooled. Ten minutes later, they'll be hungry hippos and you won't hear the end of it!
3. Trying to answer incomprehensible questions.
4. Taming that one camper who is always out of line.
It's hard enough controlling a group of 10 without the extra chaos.
5. Having to improvise because the planned schedule just won't cut it.
Fifteen minutes of kickball is where they draw the line. You always have to have five new and exciting activities in your back pocket and ready to go.
6. Controlling your laughter when a camper accidentally cracks an inappropriate joke.
"Yes! Now we get to play with two balls?!"
7. When they ask to do that one cheer for the umpteenth time that day.
"EVERYWHERE WE GO ... "
8. Your campers never cease complaining about the heat.
They say it like think we have frostbite or something. Don't worry, kids, we're sweating buckets too.
9. Playing dodgeball is your favorite time of day.
Nothing beats the thrill of pegging that one kid who busted your chops all day.
10. How you react when the day is finally over.
Nothing is brings more relief than putting that last camper in their car at the end of a long day.
11. But wait, don't forget the staff meeting after dismissal!
12. And tomorrow, it all starts over again!
