Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College has a long history and has educated thousands of women (and now men). Going to SMWC is very different from an average college, so here are 12 things we Woodsies know to be true when going to the Woods.
1. You had the Avenue Moment.
It has happened to all of us who took a visit to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. Something about driving or walking down The Avenue you just knew this was where I was meant to go to school.
2. The count down to Ring Day.
As a freshman, you don't really understand Ring Day or why it's such a big deal but it just is. There's a lot of history behind the ring and knowing that each student has a part in that history is something very special.
3. Not wanting to be caught on this bridge when the church bells rang.
Legend has it, if you're caught on this very bridge when the bell rings, you'll become a nun!
4. Wanting to meet Saint Mother Theodore Guerin.
She is a celebrity. Every Woodsie knows that Mama T is watching over us.
5. You know everyone on campus.
Thanks to our very small school, you will always know the names or face of everyone around you. You will also know if there is a campus tour, new student or just a visitor touring the beautiful Woods.
6. Squirrels... Squirrels everywhere!
Whether you are just looking out the window or walking to class, you will see at least one squirrel.
7. Pomeroy Pedals are the best!
Whether you're trying to hurry-up and get to class or taking a nice ride around campus, these bikes are the perfect addition to SMWC!
8. Seeing nuns at sporting events is nothing new.

9. Getting asked what a Pomeroy is.
I am a Pomeroy.
10. Scary stories are everywhere on campus!
There are a many scary stories surrounding SMWC.
These include, but are not limited to, the following: the faceless nun, the
mysterious stain, the statue of Lucifer that disappears, the basement of the conservatory, the crying angels and the
ghost in Hulman. The scary stories are everywhere!
11. Nine O'Clock Snack
Yes, we are college students and we do have snack time. Whether you’re actually hungry or just need a study break, nine o’clock snack is the perfect time to recharge.
12. Knowing you always have a place to call home.
It’s not a lie when students say this is their home away from. The Woods is a special place and there’s no where else I would rather be than at SMWC with my fellow Woodsies.
