Some of my fondest memories from high school come from being involved in theatre productions. Whether they came from the hours you spent at rehearsals or the last time you took a bow on stage, they are truly special. Although you may no longer be involved in theatre, you still love seeing shows and listening to show tunes. Here are just a few things that every former theater kid can relate to.
1. You define your years in high school based on what shows you were in during that time.
"I was in 'Footloose' when I was a sophomore."
2. Many people are afraid of public speaking, but you embrace it! It's kind of like being on stage again.
Even if you don't know exactly what you're giving a presentation on, you can probably improvise your way around it.
3. You can still remember most of the lyrics from the musicals you were in and can sing them on cue.
If anybody even slightly mentions a song you sang, you will definitely start singing it.
4. Whenever the opportunity comes up to go see a show, whether that be a touring production or play done by your University's theater department, you always take advantage of it.
It's one of the best ways to spend a Friday night.
5. You've probably spent way too much money on buying show tickets.
It's probably for the best not to think about all of the money you've spent, because it could probably cover a semester's worth of books.
6. You love show tunes and have listened to the entire soundtrack of too many musicals.
The amount of musical soundtracks you own is honestly embarrassing.
7. Going back to see your high school's production is a very bitter-sweet moment.
You're so proud of the friends you left behind, but it feels super weird to not be on stage with them.
8. You love looking through old scripts and pictures from your favorite shows.
It brings back so many great memories!
9. Every year, you obsess over the Tony Awards and predict who the winners are going to be.
Even though the Tony's aren't until June, you've already come up with most of your predictions.
10. You've taken a theater class in college just so you can relive the glory days.
And this class has probably been one of your favorites.
11. You miss being a part of the amazing families that formed from rehearsing all of the time.
Theatre friends are pretty much the best.
12. If the opportunity to be in another show arose, you know you would leap at the chance.
Between school, work, and other activities, it's become pretty difficult to be involved in a show. You know that you'll be in one again someday!
