12 Spooky Shows to Get You Creeped Out for Halloween

September’s just begun you know what that means right! Only two more months until Halloween. Ok, ok so you probably weren’t thinking that but who doesn’t love a few spooky shows to get them in the mood for the 31 of October! Here are 12 shows, still airing, that will help you get you into the Halloween spirit.

The Strain Sundays, FX 10pm E.T.

Guillermo del Toro directed the pilot episode of The Strain and since it aired in 2014 it has had another season and is in the process of airing it’s third season. The show seems like another cop show set in New York, New York until an there’s an outbreak of… something. Something that greatly resembles an ancient strain of vampirism. Follow the story as Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Cory Stoll) former head of CDC, Abraham Setrakian (David Bradley) vampire hunter and holocaust survivor, Dutch Velders (Ruta Gedmintas) a hacker, and Vasiliy Fet (Kevin Durand) as they hunt down the strigoi ravaging their city.

American Horror Story Wednesday, September 14 FX 10pm E.T.

No list of ongoing horror tv shows would be complete without American Horror Story. If you’re confused by the show’s set up, fear not, it can be perplexing. Since it first aired in 2011 every season has had a different story, setting, and characters. The plots usually are based, if loosely, on true american horror stories. For example the last season, American Horror Story: Hotel, was about a haunted hotel built by a man called Mr. March (Evan Peters). The story the season is inspired by the hotel built by H.H. Holmes in Chicago where he killed an estimated total of 200 people. The show also has a cast that changes with the seasons but also have some staple actor as well such as Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, and Jessica Lang. Some big names that have been in the show are Zachary Quinto, Matt Bomer, and Lady Gaga. There’s no way of knowing who’s going to be in the new season, or even what that season will be about, because the cast and crew are just that good at keeping secrets. They went as far to make some of the promotions for the show misdirections to be sure everyone will be surprised when its sixth season airs.

Lucifer Monday, September 19 FOX 9/8c

This is a relatively new show that will be airing it’s second season. If you’re a fan of Neil Gaimen, specifically his Sandman comics then this might be something you’d like, as the main character, Lucifer, is based on the Lucifer found in Gaimen’s comics. Basically it’s about Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis), the fallen angel, ruler of hell yada, yada, yada, who has become bored with his life and retires to Los Angeles. Through a series of events Lucifer is introduced to two things Chloe (Lauren German), a homicide detective and a feeling he’d thought he’d lost with his soul, compassion.

Scream Queens Tuesday, September 20 FOX 9pm E.T.

Much like Lucifer this show is also on FOX and also starting it’s second season. If you’re interested in the campy brand of macabre then this may be for you. The first season was great and depicted a caricature of a sorority and stared some big names like Leah Michelle, In this new season the Chanels (Emma not-Watson Roberts, Abigail Breslin, and Billie Lourd) are working in a hospital run by Dean Munsch (Jaimie Lee Curtis). And we’ll definitely be seeing Hester Ulrich (Lea Michele) and Zayday Williams (Keke Palmer). Sounds promising right! Especially with the new additions to the cast such as Taylor Lautner and John Stamos.

The Exorcist Friday, September 23 FOX 9pm E.T.

Yes, yes, the Exorcist is a movie but now, thanks to FOX, it will be a show also. It is based on the 1971 novel, that the movie was also based on, by William Peter Blatty. It will have all you favorites from the movie like Father Thomas Ortega (Alfonso Herrera), Father Marcus Keane (Ben Daniels), Angela Rance (Greena Davis) and Casey Rance (Hannah Kasulka). This is a new show, so if you’re interested be sure to watch it and show your support if you want to see a season 2.

Supernatural Wednesday, October 19 CW 9pm E.T.

Supernatural is going on its 12 season and still going strong. If you’re knew to Supernatural, or you’re interested in joining the fandom fear not, it’s never too late to catch up. In case you don’t know, the show is about two brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) Winchester as they go about the ‘family business’. No they don’t run a restaurant or an auto shop, they hunt ghosts and demons. Stopping the supernatural terrorizing people and putting an end to the apocalypse, you know, the norm.

Dirk Gentley’s Holistic Detective Agency Saturday, October 22 BBC America 9pm E.T.

If you are a fan of Douglas Addams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy then you need to be sure to see this adaption of another of his novels Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency. It’s a science fiction/fantasy book so we can only assume that it will be the same in this version. This is not the first time the BBC has made a televised version of the book, the first was on BBC4 in March of 2012. This adaption looks very promising as it stars Christian Bako, Samuel Barnett, Aaron Douglas and Elijah Wood and is being directed by Max Landis.

The Walking Dead Sunday, October 23 AMC 9pm E.T.

If your a fan of zombies then look no further than The Walking Dead, which is based on a comic book series by Robert Kirkman. It’s going on its sixth season and still going strong. Even though a zombie apocalypse is not many people can relate to the stories of the characters themselves are very relatable. People always say that it is in the hard times that people’s true colors come out and nowhere would that be truer then in the actual zombie apocalypse. You see it’s not only the dead Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his band of survivors have to fear. It’s also the living.

Fear the Walking Dead Sundays AMC 9/8c

If you can’t get enough zombie action from The Walking dead then you should also watch Fear the Walking Dead, a spin off of the The Walking dead. One of the most interesting things about this show is probably that, unlike The Walking Dead, you actually get to see how everyone reacts to the the dead being, well, undead from the beginning of the phenomenon. It also takes place on the West cost and the characters are completely there own and original to the show. If you start watching now you can still catch the second half of its second season.

Grimm Friday, October 28 NBC 9pm E.T.

Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) is just as surprised as you when his aunt tell him he is a descendent of a long line of “Grimms.” The Grimms were hunters, protecting the human race from “wesen”, supernatural creatures that look completely human to the average person but soon Nick is able to see their true forms. It’s a lot to take in but for fans of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales this is a show for you. Grimm is going on it’s sixth and last season.

Salem Wednesday, November 2 WGNAmerica they’re making it very difficult to find out what time it’s airing so shame on them.

Salem is on it’s third season and is about, you guessed it, the Salem Witch Trials that took place in Salem, Massachusetts in the 17th century. This show depict the witches of Salem as they instigate the uproar amounts the puritans. The story follows Mary Sibley (Janet Montgomery) and Captain John Alden (Shane West) and they’re story that involves romance, madness, and, above all else, horror.

Stranger Things Netflix

This list is technically only shows that will be airing within the Halloween season but this one’s on Netflix so it really doesn’t have airing dates does it? Ha-ha loophole! Stranger Things starts out in Hawkins, Indiana during the 1980’s and there is nothing to suggest it’s anything other than a quiet little town until a young boy goes missing. His friends, accompanied by a girl with telekinesis, his mother (Winona Ryder) and brother (Charlie Heaton) and Chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour) work to find the boy and along the way discover an dark underbelly to their town that they could never have foreseen. Seriously though, Stranger Things really stands out, not only for its child acting that doesn’t make you want to tear your hair out, but also its truly original plot and great execution.

So there you go, 12 shows that will get you creeped out and ready for the spooky season of Halloween! Enjoy!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
