12 Songs Your 7th Grade Emo Self Would Appreciate

We all try to avoid talking about that awful emo phase we went through in 7th grade. Some of us had the pleasure of skipping it completely, others weren't so lucky. From dying our hair random colors, to spending all of our money at Hot Topic and more eyeliner we would like to admit, we went through the worst phase of our lives. We pined over Gerard Way, and Andy Sixx, going as far in our obsession to make them part of our usernames (cough XxMrsGerardWayxX totally wasn’t one of mine cough). We had every poster, read every magazine, begged to go to all the concerts we could (especially when our older sisters refused to go with us), and made the best playlists on our iPods that contained all of the heartbreak and feelings our little hearts could possibly contain in 7th grade. Here's a playlist of 12 songs so you can relive 7th grade on your own, in the comfort of your room!

1. My Chemical Romance - I'm Not Okay (I Promise)

You cannot tell me you didn't basically scream this song in your room, especially after they broke up (still too fresh a wound?)

2. Fall Out Boy - Thnks Fr Th Mmrs

Getting into a fight with your friends over who got to marry Pete? Perfect song to kick them to the curb, because no one was stealing Pete (or hidden gem Patrick) from xMrsWentzzXx, no way.

3. Panic! At The Disco - I Write Sins Not Tragedies

Let's face it, everyone screamed whore when the censored version played on the radio.

4. Jimmy Eat World - The Middle

Remember not feeling good enough, like ever? And then hearing this song and feeling a million times better?

5. Avril Lavigne - Sk8r Boi

I think it's safe to say every single girl sang this at least once while they thought about a boy that didn't like them back.

6. Paramore - Ignorance

yle

We all got angry at some point and listened to this song on repeat for a couple of days, right? We all wanted Hayley's hair (and some of us still might).

7. Evanescence - Bring Me To Life

How many times did this song come on when you were feeling down? How many of those times did you scream it at the top of your lungs? Every time? That's what I thought.

8. Simple Plan - Welcome To My Life

"No one understands me! It's not just a phase mom!"

9. Green Day - Boulevard Of Broken Dreams

Perfect song to walk home in the rain with (or sing in the shower), you know, when you walk alone.

10. Blink 182 - I Miss You

Pretty sure we all were obsessed with the line "We could live like Jack and Sally", because we were all little Tim Burton obsessed freaks.

11. Taking Back Sunday - Cute Without The E

When you had too many emotions to process, and turned to music to help you feel better, this was always one of the ones you played first.

12. Thirty Seconds To Mars - The Kill

Always a staple of many playlists, full of all the anger, hate, and preteen angst we felt towards our parents who insisted we were just going through a super awkward phase. And let's face it, maybe we're still in the phase, just a little more mature.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
