Everyone has a different experience with their roommates. My freshman year of college, my roommate and I got off to a rocky start, but by the end of the year, we had become close friends. Even though we aren't living together again this year, we've learned a lot about how to live with a roommate. This year, I live with one of my absolute best friends and I could not be happier. She is absolutely the right roommate for me.
1. They just get you. They understand exactly what you're feeling, and somehow seem to know exactly what you need in whatever situation.
2. They know and respect any organizational system that you have, or vice versa. You may have a Monica Geller level of organization and cleaning skills, and they respect that, even when they don't get it.
3. They'll encourage you to be the best that you can be. If you're having a bad day, they'll do everything they know can to get you feeling better. And they'll always remind you of just how awesome being you is.
4. They're always up to indulge with you in that late-night ice cream run and sixth straight hour of your Netflix binge.
5. You make sure you're both functioning like (somewhat) real adults on a (somewhat) daily basis.
6. They're like a parent and a sibling combined.
7. They'll always listen to your ridiculous rambling, and are occasionally entertained by it.
8. They respect the roommate rules you made at the beginning of the year, no matter how strange, hilarious, and no longer applicable they may be.
9. You don't have to talk to communicate.
10. There is absolutely no judgement. After living with the right person, they know how you sing Beyonce in the shower, and that making popcorn at 3AM is not a sign of insanity.
11. They love you unconditionally. No matter how weird you are, how many outfits you try on, no matter what mood you're in, no matter how many times you cry over that ex, you know they'll always be there for you. Usually less than 500 feet away.
12. They'll make you never want to live with anyone else.
