All-female high schools have been inspiring, educating, and empowering young women for decades. I, myself, am a graduate from an all-girls high school. So, I understand the ups, downs, and in-betweens of attending these unique institutions. Any woman who attended an all-female school, even just for a semester, will tell you how distinct the experience is. Let’s take a look at 12 scenarios every all-girl school survivor relates to.
1. There's no shame in asking for a pad or tampon.
Desperate times call for desperate measures, even if your friend's pad is not exactly your preferred size.
2. Or forgetting to shave your legs. Again.
At least you save money on razors and shaving cream. #BallingOnABudget
3. Messy buns are the school wide trend.
Step one: roll out of bed.
Step two: put on uniform.
Step three: stuff hair together and wrap a hair tie (or two) around it.
It's really just that easy.
4. You rarely wear makeup to school.
No, really, no girl has time for that.
5. But if you do, it's for something really important.
Exceptions may include (but are not limited to) picture day or visits from the local all-boys schools.
6. Everyone assumes you or your friends are lesbian.
No, we really aren't all lesbian.
7. When a boy visits your campus, he's on every girl's radar.
We will figure out who he is faster than you can say the name of our school.
8. "Free dress" is never really "free."
If you think about it, charging students to get out of their uniforms for a day is a great way to raise money.
9. You forget to cross your legs when wearing a skirt.
This makes the male teachers really uncomfortable.
10. You're not afraid to grab that second plate of food.
Another slice of pizza? Another taco? Another scoop of ice cream? Hell yeah.
11. People assume you have no contact with boys.
Little do they know that for every all-girls school there exists an all-boys just a few miles away.
12. Your wardrobe consists of free tee shirts and your uniform.
And maybe, just maybe, a few pairs of black leggings.
