As the youngest of three siblings, I know a thing or two about being the baby of the family, and well, still today, I am treated like an actual baby when I'm around them. Of course, there are some perks, here's what I'm talking about:
1. You get called the wrong name
By your PARENTS. My parents are sticklers for calling me by my two sisters names before I have to remind them of my own.
Dad: Meghan...I mean Sarah...
Me: My name is Lauren Dad...
Dad: Right, didn't I say that?
2. You only watched/listened to what they were
Which I guess could be a good thing, except all of your classmates didn't know what you were talking about when you say your favorite band was NSYNC.
3. You hate being center of attention
All your life, you had to compete for your parents' attention, and after a while, you just gave up. That all changes when they leave for college, suddenly all the attention is on you because it's just you and your parents in the house.
4. You have the same teachers
*Walks in on the first day*
"Oh, I remember having your sister's in class. Tell me how are they doing?"
5. You wore nothing but hand me downs when you were younger
You didn't have your own style growing up because everything you owned was passed down by your sisters, no matter how much you hated the color.
6. You blamed them for everything
One plus side is that you can blame your sisters for something they didn't do...and of course get away with it because you are the youngest.
7. You always try to be different from them
Whether that's playing a different sport, or going to a different college, you choose to make your own path, instead of following in their footsteps.
8. When you were younger, you wanted a little sibling
Of course you hated being the youngest, so you begged your parents to have another sibling. Thankfully, they were smart enough, and were happy with just three.
9. You tried to prove your "coolness"
Of course, they were older than you, and so you had to try to prove to them that you were cool enough to hang out with them and their friends.
10. So their friends became yours
You all grew up together, so their friends now became some of your closest friends. And they're ok with that.
11. You are always the "baby" of the family
Even at twenty years old, I'm still considered the baby of the family, and well I'm ok with it now. Someone has to be the youngest.
12. You always have someone to look up to
In the end, you are fortunate to your sibling to look up to. We sometimes forget to remind them of how important they are in our lives. We have followed their lead for most of our lives and they have helped mold you into the person you are today.
To all older siblings out there, we thank you.
