12 Reasons Why Staying at ‘Nova for the Summer is the Best Decision You Ever Made

Last week, I compiled a list of how you know you are missing the Nation this summer...but some of us have been fortunate enough to have never left.  Besides the fact that you aren’t paying rent on an empty house (thank you leases that start June 1st) and you are spending the summer months at the best place in the country, there are countless reasons why not going home for the summer is one of the best decisions you ever made.

Summertime Nationers, this one’s for you….

1. Your Instagram is still as artsy as ever, thanks to the way the church looks when it’s 90 degrees and sunny.

2. You don’t have to miss Thursday nights at the mainline bars, because they are most definitely still a thing.

3. You can come home and pour yourself a drink without having to worry about your mom or dad wondering if drinking on a Wednesday is early alcoholism.

4. There is no better platform to tan on than the Oreo.

5. Free gym membership. Forget having to figure out which gym at home runs the best deal for the summer and then actually having to pay to work out, Davis Center it is.

6. You can still have those lovely, “OMG I just saw a celebrity” moments when you run into Jay Wright in the area.

7. World Cup games at Flips. Shout out to the 50 year old man who started the USA chant.

8. Never having to do the same amount of chores you would have to at home. Someone in your apartment will vacuum eventually I’m sure.

9. The mini fridge in your dining room is always full of beer, and that is totally acceptable.

10. If that previously mentioned fridge were to run out, you can walk down the street to the nearest beer distributor, thanks to the fact that you conveniently picked your housing location based off of this very store. Somehow I feel as though our parents did not do the same planning when they chose a neighborhood.

11. You were able to boost your resume with a killer internship or improve your GPA with some summer classes. We have to admit it, most of us are still doing productive and academic things amidst all the fun.

12. When everyone else is rushing back for move-in weekend and tweeting the standard “Nova bound for another year #gocatz,” you can sit on your porch and relax, knowing that you’re way ahead of the game.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
