All girls know that having a sister is a blessing in disguise. Yes, she can irritate you, but she is also your live-in best friend for the first 18 years of your life, and she is the one you go to when you are upset.
Here are 12 reasons why having a sister is a necessity.
1. She knows exactly who you are and doesn't judge you for it.
Want to walk around the house all day with no pants? She will do it with you. She knows you go after the bad boys and even though she doesn't approve, she will be there in the end, with the ice cream ready.
2. She is another human you can be weird with.
Feel the need to dance to Jonas Brothers? Call your sister because she will be down for it. Want to randomly speak in a British accent in public? She does not even think twice about it before joining you.
3. She shares family dinners and vacations with you.
Family vacations can be somewhat of a drag, but not when you have a sister to share it with. Long car rides? She has the movies or smutty books to survive. Family dinner? She will be there to make fun of someone to help you survive. Maybe she will even order something she hates and spit it out just to make you laugh.
4. She is always up for a date night.
Craving Mexican? She will be down to go grab dinner. Want McDonald's at 1 a.m.? Wow, how lucky, she wants the same thing. Boyfriend won’t go see the chick flick with you? No problem, your second boyfriend (aka sister) will go with you and even bring tissues.
5. She is there to share the humiliation of baby pictures and matching outfits.
Want to forget about that overbite you had in fifth grade? She won’t let it happen because she had the same thing. Matching outfits are always a thing when it comes to sisters. Looking back through scrapbooks asking yourself why Mom put you both in big blue dresses for Easter? This matching thing, for my sister and I, has yet to end. We somehow always wear the same thing.
6. She will help you celebrate every event in your life.
A sister is always there to celebrate everything good in your life. Graduations, getting into college, birthdays, heck, even if you get an A on a really hard test, she will go buy you a cupcake because she is so proud. However, she may embarrass you with some pretty bad pictures.
7. With a sister, you have access to two closets.
Need something to wear on your date tonight? Walk into her room and she will have something for you, although this may lead to fighting because you borrowed something without asking. Oops.
8. You can call her any time to vent about how your roommates, or boyfriend, or parents are annoying you.
Having a bad night? Call your sister and she will cheer you up -- or join you in the venting spree. Are Mom and Dad being overbearing? She will be there to share your pain and will talk about it for hours, no matter the time. And if she does miss your call, she will return it ASAP.
9. She will tell you exactly like it is.
This one is tough because, sometimes, you do not want to hear the truth. However, your sister will definitely give it to you. Think your outfit is good? Think again, because she will be there to critique it and then fix it. Sometimes, this leads to big fights, but you’re family -- you will be back to normal in five minutes.
10. You have someone to be your maid of honor.
Every girl's dream is to have someone stand next to them on their wedding day and, no, it's not the groom, it's your maid of honor. She is the most important girl because she will help you get through everything. Cue the tears and the tissues.
11. Age does not matter because people get you both mixed up.
If you are going to visit Dad at work, regardless of how many times y’all have been there, someone will call you your sister's name and will think that the older sister is actually the younger one.
12. You have a built in best friend who has been, and will always be, your partner in crime your whole life.
If this is not amazing, then I don’t know what is. Having a sister is a blessing in disguise. She will always be there for you and she will always be there to fight with you. No matter how many years are in between you, you will always have each other. I would not trade my sister for the world, although I would never actually tell her that.
This one is for you, Jess.
