12 Reasons Why Having A Common Name Sucks

According to Nameberry.com, the most popular names of all time are Mary and James. The list goes on to name John, Susan, Michael, Michelle, and right down at No. 23, Ashley. Even though our names don't define who we are, and shouldn't make that much of a difference, it can be incredibly tedious to have to share your name with thousands of other people. So here are the top 12 reasons why having a common name sucks:

1. There is always someone else in class with your name.

The first day of class is always hell for you. When the teacher takes attendance you raise your hand enthusiastically until the last name is called when you awkwardly lower your hand.

2. When someone calls your name in public and you turn around.

The worst is when you fully acknowledge them and wave before you realize they were calling someone else.

3. Stores are always sold out of novelties with your name on them.

It's OK. I didn't want that keychain anyway. And I've given up on the idea that I'll find a coke bottle with my name written on it.

4. People always bring up how common your name is.

"Oh, my sister's hairdresser's boyfriend has that name"

"K, cool..."

5. Someone always points out the different variations of spelling your name.

"I spell mine Ashleigh. But my friend spells hers Ashlee. But you're Ashley."

6. People reference songs or movies where your name is mentioned.

"Your name is Stacey? Does your mom have it going on?"

7. It's impossible to find a good username that doesn't already exist.

"It's fine. I'll just be Sarah111554222pizzalover"

8. You easily get jealous of people with unique names.

"Wow you're name is Cherie? That's so unique and cool. I wonder what that is like"

9. Cursing your mother for giving you such a basic name.

"Seriously mom?! Seriously? You couldn't even try to be original."

10. You meet/bond with people with the same name.

Friendships are built from a common hatred of how basic your name is.

11. Your name is so common that even the opposite sex has it.

Nothing is weirder than finding a guy attractive and realizing he has the same name as you... Deal breaker.

12. You've given yourself a nickname because it makes life easier.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
