12 Reasons I Can't Wait To Move Into My Off Campus Apartment

Nobody likes the dorms, nobody.

12 Reasons I Can't Wait To Move Into My Off Campus Apartment

Like most first year students, I was required to live on campus in a traditional dorm room setting. For my sophomore year, I found an off-campus apartment with some amazing girls. Knowing that I have something so great to look forward to it is making me a little bitter about still living in the dorms. All I can do is look forward to next year and try to make it through the next month!

1. No more public bathrooms

In my opinion, this is the worst part about living in a dorm hall. Something about seeing hair on the shower wall that is not mine makes me cringe, change that, everything about that makes me cringe. Not to mention having to time your showers around the janitor's cleaning schedule and the other people in your hall.

2. Home cooked meals

What can I say, I am just straight up sick of dining hall food. One can only eat a chicken patty and tater tots so many times before getting sick of it.

3. My own bedroom

Before college, I've never had to share a bedroom, and it was a rude awakening. It's hard to learn to be considerate of your roommate's sleeping schedule; you can't just think of yourself anymore. But, next semester I can have the lights on and off whenever I want. I'll probably spend the first week flipping them on and off because I can.

4. No more screaming college kids (OK, maybe a little)

College kids can be annoying but we're all equally annoying and there's no denying that.

5. No more CAs (even though I absolutely love mine)

Living in the dorms I feel like I'm always being babysat. I got lucky and got a really chill CA my freshman year. She's really laid back, but I'll be happy to not have hall meetings anymore or worrying about quiet hours.

6. No more walking up multiple flights of stairs for laundry

I've definitely seen an improvement in my calves since the beginning of the year, but I'm all for being lazy and having my own washer and dryer.

7. No more cinder walls

Nothing, and I mean nothing sticks on my wall. My tapestry, pictures, posters and dry erase board fall off on a daily basis. I can't wait to have a room with regular walls so I can finally hang things up. Not to mention it'll look a lot less like a jail cell.

8. My car is right outside my door

Because I live on campus, my car has been vanished to the student parking lot all the way on upper campus. I have to walk all the way across lower campus to a bus stop. From there I ride a bus to another stop... and then I walk some more. It also gets locked up every night at 11, and then on the weekends it gets closed at 5 p.m. How ridiculous is that? I pay $75 a month to have it locked up and untouchable. Next year it'll be right outside and completely accessible.

9. Decorating

Maybe I'm crazy, but I cannot wait to decorate my apartment with throw pillows, candles and coasters. It'll be nice to finally feel homey while I'm here at school

10. I'll get to feel like a full blown adult

Grocery shopping, cleaning, cooking and paying my rent on time every month will be my first real experience of "adulting." It's scary but very, very exciting!

11. Air conditioning

This really shouldn't need an explanation...

12. I get to live with some pretty amazing girls

I get to live with three other girls next year. I know two right now, and they are some pretty amazing girls. I'll find out our third roommate in May and I'm sure she'll be just as great. I'm so excited to have family dinners and movie nights with these girls.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
