12 Promises To My Future Students

12 Promises To My Future Students
Lauren Perrone

To my future students,

Teaching is a passion. Everyone who becomes a teacher dreams of the day where they have a classroom of their own. They dream of the plans they will create, and the lessons the students will learn. They dream of the field trips, reading groups, flashcards, and books. They dream of arts and crafts, and dishing out the A+s. They dream of the endless possibilities on how their students will succeed. To my future students, I am already so proud of each and everyone of you, and I am so excited to call you all my students.

1. I promise that you will leave with a sense of accomplishment and pride.

No matter how big or small, you should feel proud of everything you accomplish.

2. I promise to show you the beauty behind being unique.

You are an individual. There is not another you. Celebrate being unique.

"Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you! " Dr. Suess

3. I promise to push you outside your boundaries.

I will push you outside your boundaries. You never know how far you can run, if you never leave the starting line.

4. I promise to celebrate your successes with you.

Hey, you did it! I am already so proud.

5. And I promise to be there when you feel like you have failed.

I'll be there to support you. So the next day, we can try again. I'll be there either way.

6. I promise to help you find something positive with everyday.

It is important to find the sun even on the cloudy days. Even though you can't see it, it is still there.

7. I promise to show you your strengths, and how you can use them to your advantage.

Your strengths are unique to you. Use them and develop them. Find how to use them in and out of the classroom.

8. I promise to show you how to be a good friend.

Friends are the family we get to pick, make sure you're worth picking.

9. I promise to make you understand that you are irreplaceable, and unconditionally loved.

No matter what anyone tells you; you are unconditionally loved by someone and you are irreplaceable. You are a part of a puzzle and nobody else can replace your piece.

10. I promise to be a good role model.

I promise to set a good example. To show you that hard work really pays off.

11. I promise to show you that dreams have no boundaries.

The only person who puts restrictions on them is you. Believe in yourself. Dream big. The possibilities on what you can achieve are endless.

12. I promise to do everything that I can to help you succeed.

My number one dream is to see each and everyone of you grow and succeed.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
