Not everyone loves to read, but when most people decide to read something they usually go for a novel of some sort. The lesser known, but still great, books of literature are some of the ones I tend to like the most. These are the categories of nonfiction, essays, short stories, and poetry and I suggest that everyone read at least some of these in their lifetime. Here are some of my recommendations.
1. Bad Feminist by Roxanne Gay
2. Fanny Says by Nickole Brown
3. What We Talk About When We Talk About Love by Raymond Carver
4. The People Look Like Flowers At Last by Charles Bukowski
5. Notes of a Native Son by James Baldwin
6. Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Pirsig
7. Dr. Tatiana's Sex Advice to All Creation by Olivia Judson
8. Men Explain Things to Me by Rebecca Solnit
9. Duino Elegies by Rainer Maria Rilke
10. Touchstone Anthology of Contemporary Creative Nonfiction
11. Binge by Tyler Oakley
12. Dirty Pretty Things by Michael Faudet
