With the new semester starting this week, it's definitely vital for students (new and current) to know where to get the tastiest late night eats in San Marcos. These options definitely come in handy when those late night cravings attack and you need something to munch on while watching Netflix, while you're up all night studying before a test (especially during finals), or after a night out on the square. There are even some super convenient late night delivery options, too. Enjoy!
1. Sinners and Saints (Dirty Dogs) 221 S. Guadalupe St. (Open 'til 3AM)
The original dirty dog consists of a tortilla filled with a sausage link, pulled pork, and green chili mac 'n' cheese. It may sound like an odd combination to some, but I swear by it. They also have quite a few other dirty dog combinations, so you're sure to find something you like. This place is conveniently located on the square, so it's a great stop after a night out.
2. AJ's Ranch Road Grill 205 Moore St. (Open 'til 3AM)
If you're like me and can eat barbeque literally at any time of day, AJ's is a great place to get some at night. It's pretty much the only late night barbeque option in San Marcos, which is perfect for when those late night cravings make an appearance.
3. Erbert and Gerbert's Sandwich Shop 214 N.LBJ Dr. (Open and deliver 'til 3AM)
With all of the sandwiches named after an original cartoon storyline, Erbert and Gerbert's adds a more creative spin to different classic sandwich options. They're not as big as Jimmy John's sandwiches, but they do include the extra piece of bread that's cut out of the sandwich rolls. And their soups are amazing...this is one of my favorite places to go (or get delivery from) on a cold or rainy night.
4. Jimmy John's 117 E. Hopkins St. (Open and deliver 'til 3AM)
Jimmy John's comes in clutch when you're needing food (I usually take advantage of their late night delivery) "freaky fast." Sometimes a big, classic sandwich is all I'm in the mood for, and they're so big that most of the time I can just save half of it for later.
5. Whataburger 1004 N. Interstate Hwy 123 (Open 24 Hrs)
Everyone loves Whataburger. It's safe to say that most people already know of its existence in San Marcos, but how could it NOT make the list?
6. Gumby's Pizza 403 N. Guadalupe St. (Open and deliver 'til 3:30AM)
Ahh Gumby's. Home of the "Stoner Pie"...a pizza topped with extra cheese, pepperoni, bacon, mozzarella sticks, AND French fries. Heart attack in a box, for sure, but oh so delicious. Personally, I generally prefer to order a pizza topped with pepperoni and mozzarella sticks. Literally the perfect combo.
7. Alvin Ord's Sandwich Shop 204 University Dr. (Open 'til 10PM)
Alivin Ord's has THE best sandwiches in San Marcos, hands down. You just can't beat the bread that they use...it's very similar to that at Schlotzkey's Deli, but way better. Even though they aren't open super late like most of the others on this list, it's a small "mom and pop" type place (with graffiti-covered booths) that I feel like everyone needs to know about.
8. Fuego Tortilla Grill 913 N. Interstate 35 (Open 24 Hrs)
You'll only need one taco, unless you're super hungry. They roast their own rotisserie chickens in the restaurant, so the meat is always fresh and juicy. They also serve breakfast tacos, so the menu gets pretty extensive - the possibilities are endless!
9. Exxon Tacos ("Bobcat Quickie") 339 N. Guadalupe St. (Open 24 Hrs)
It sounds odd to add gas station tacos to this list, but trust me - these are some of the best, least-known tacos in San Marcos. They're cheap, authentic Tex-Mex, and served around the clock...what more do you need?
10. Pie Society 700 N. LBJ Dr. Ste 107 (Open 'til 12AM)
Pie Society is a pretty cool pizza place if you're looking for something a little more upscale than the regular delivery options. Yes, they're also a little more expensive, but it's worth it. They also select a few of their signature pizzas each day and sell those by the slice. Located on the other side of Dos Gatos at Sessom and N. LBJ Dr., Pie Society is really close to campus, making it a great place to also grab lunch in between classes.
11. Pluckers Wing Bar 105 N. Interstate 35 (Open 'til 2AM)
Pluckers is the place to go for chicken ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. Wings, tenders, sandwiches...they've got it all. They also have a wide range of different sauces from mild to unbearably hot; try the "Fire in the Hole" challenge if you dare.
12. Gordo's Burgers and Stuff 804 Chestnut St. Ste A (Open and deliver 'til 11PM)
Gordo's has one of the two best burgers I have ever had in San Marcos. I feel like it's a super underrated place, and gets passed up a lot because of its location. I recently tried their food for the first time, and now I know exactly where I'll be going when I'm in the mood for a big bacon cheeseburger.
