The book and movie series of Harry Potter might be one of the most influential stories of our time. Within this story comes a variety of characters who provide a piece to the whole. We might not live in a world of magic, but these 16 characters provide important lessons we can apply to our world in every way.

1. Ron Weasley

Ron teaches us that being the sidekick means you are the dependable one who saves the day at the right moments.


2. Hermione Granger

Hermione teaches us how to be smart and badass at the same time. (Let's be real, Harry would not be where he is without her)


3. Remus Lupin

Lupin teaches us how to get over our fears and the dark feelings they bring. Also, he shows that even though there is a monster inside us all, we still can live and be happy.


4. Sirius Black

Sirius teaches us friendship, and the dedication that it takes to be the truest and best of friends.


5. Tom Marvolo Riddle/ Lord Voldemort

Voldey teaches us that without love, we will surely die; and to not give pieces of you away.


6. Draco Malfoy

Malfoy teaches us that you will never be happy if you only follow others.


7. Neville Longbottom

Neville teaches us so much. Out of all the lessons he may teach, bravery is the one that stands above all. He is the true definition of the Gryffindor house.


8. Luna Lovegood

Luna teaches us it's okay to be different, and thinking different will make you see life in a whole new perspective.


9. Rubeus Hagrid

Hagrid teaches us to provide loyalty and kindness to everyone; even to those who may not deserve it.


10. Fred and George Weasley

Fred and George teach us to laugh in the worst times; for that is the best medicine.


11. Dolores Umbridge

Umbridge teaches us to not be Umbridge for the love of God.


12. Minevera McGonagall

McGonagall teaches us patience and badassery. No one else can put up with Potter and all of his crap like her, and she does it in the coolest ways.


13. Albus Dumbledore

Dumbledore teaches us how to push through the challenges we come across, and that we will always succeed if we try.


14. Severus Snape

Snape teaches us love. He shows that love is powerful and can make us do things we never thought we would do.


15. Dobby the (free) House Elf

Dobby teaches us how to stand up for ourselves and one another when we need it most.


16. Harry Potter

Harry teaches us the effects of true love, and love is the most powerful kind of magic we have.
