12 Emo Songs You Definitely Loved In 2006

It's 2016 guys. Isn't that just crazy? With the news that Cute Is What We Aim For have once again revived from "the dead," and announced a TEN year anniversary tour for Same Old Blood Rush With A New Touch (2006), I felt it was time to take a trip down memory lane. All of those summer anthems you remember singing along to at the top of your lungs, remember them? Many of the famous emo and alternative music anthems are getting old. Trust me, 2006 was a year that made its mark on emo music and the scene. I feel so old looking at this classic list of songs. Prepare your bodies. Things are about to get emotional. Taking you back to the Myspace days.

1. MakeDamnSure- Taking Back Sunday

Why not start off with an emo classic that still rings true today? Taking Back Sunday wowed us and won our hearts with Louder Now. I know you all still drop what you're doing to chant "I just want to break you down so badly."

2. The Fever- The Academy Is...

What can I say? William Beckett had us all swooning when he sang practically anything.

3. Jasey Rae- All Time Low

All Time Low are still going strong today. The have released album after album. Put Up Or Shut Up came out in 2006. Isn't that a hard pill to swallow? "Don't make this easy, I want you to mean it. Jaseyyyyyy" is still one of their most classic lyrics to date. Everyone in the crowd will sing "Jasey Rae" as one beautiful group.

4. The Great Escape- Boys Like Girls

This is the one that cuts the deepest for me. Boys Like Girls was MY band when I started going to shows in this scene. They were my gateway band. How is it that their first single is TEN YEARS OLD? I'm going to go cry now.

5. The Curse Of Curves- Cute Is What We Aim For

Shaant has one of the most unique lyrical styles of the emo scene. Curse of Curves is iconic. "I've got the gift of one liners and you've got the curse of curves" is still an anthem.

6. Dark Blue- Jack's Mannequin

Okay, okay, okay. Everything In Transit technically came out in 2005. But 'Dark Blue" is still iconic and we all still listened to it religiously in 2006. Have you ever felt alone in a crowded room?

7. Naive- The Kooks

This may be the oddball song on this list. The Kooks are a British indie like band. But this song came out in 2006 and is probably their most popular.

8. Three Cheers For Five Years- Mayday Parade

"I thought I could live in your arms and spend every moment I had with you." Before Mayday released their iconic first full length, this was THE song all of us Mayday Parade fans held on too. Emo pop music at its finest.

9. Stolen- Dashboard Confessional

Chris Carrabba is a whiny emo legend. This is a fact we cannot deny.

10. Here (In Your Arms)- Hellogoodbye

The band's first single and Drive Thru Records alums. Classic. Emo classic.

11. Bring It (Snakes On a Plane)- Cobra Starship

Gabe Saporta, William Beckett AND Travie McCoy all in one song together? The perfect emo collaboration. No wonder we all fell over.

12. Jesus Christ- Brand New

I feel that it is only appropriate to end this list with one of the most iconic and still talked about songs from the 2006 emo era. The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me is to this day one of the best albums that came out of 2006. This song is truly a classic of the scene.

Before you start giving me shit for stirring up all the feels or claiming a couple of these songs weren't truly emo, just sit back and remember the good ole days. For this whole scene of music, 2006 was apart of the golden age....the glory days. Some of these bands don't exist anymore and some still bask in their former glory. The music remains no matter what. Now run off and jam these songs at your cars' max volume as you drive around listening to all the feels.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
