Dogs make the greatest companions. Whether you're looking for a dog that you can take to the park everyday, or a dog that you can just come home to at the end of the day, there are a lot different dog breeds. Every dog has a different personality. Some may be too over-protective for your family, and some may not be active enough to keep up with your every day activities. Some may be too relaxed of a pet to be around kids all day, while some are just way too hyper. So what dog breeds make the best family pets? These dogs have all the qualities that make them the best family pet you could ask for:

1. Golden Retriever

Golden Retrievers are a breed of dog that has been loved for decades, and for great reason. As puppies, they are easy to train and just as cute as they are all grown up. They are extremely patient and have a long life-span, which makes them great family pets. Kids are notorious for being rowdy and energetic, but thankfully golden retrievers have no problem putting up with that. Golden Retrievers are smart, friendly, and loyal.

2. English Bulldog

Look at that smile! If that smile doesn't win you over, wait until you see one in person. So yes, they may be a little (a lot) on the over-weight side. But regardless of their stout appearance, they are sturdy. This means that rough housing goes pretty well with them when kids want to play. However, this doesn't mean they are energetic. They can take whatever it if a kid gets a little too rough, but they are still fat little pups. They can't play for as long as other dogs may be able to! Along with being sturdy and stout, English bulldogs are loving, cuddly, and hilariously cute.

3. Labrador Retriever

I bet it doesn't come as a shock to you that labs made the list. They are one of the most popular dog breed in America, the only breed accepted for training as arson dogs, and one of the most popular service dogs. Labs love nothing more than to make their owners happy; they are strong, devoted, playful, and protective. They love playing outside, so make sure you have a big enough space to be able to take your precious baby to run around. If you're looking for an easy to train, sweet companion for your family, this dog may just be the dog for you.

4. Mutts

Mutts are some of the sweetest dogs on this planet. They are trustworthy, they love kids, they love to play, and they love to cuddle. The saddest part? They aren't as wanted as other dog's because they aren't purebred. They potty train just as easily as other dogs, they grow up to be calm and kind, and their only flaw is that they may get extremely excited when they see you. But who wouldn't love that? I grew up with a mutt and I couldn't have asked for a better dog to be alongside me as I grew up. I highly suggest stopping by your local animal shelter and looking at these sweet babies if you're in the market for a new pet.

5. Beagle

Beagles have excellent temperaments, making them great for people of all ages. They love to go outside; whether it be playing fetch, or just sitting and enjoying the weather. One thing that I love about this breed is how closely they bond to their owners. You will definitely understand why they say "a dog is a man's best friend," when you own a beagle.

6. Pug

Pug's are notorious for their huge personalities. As you can probably see in the picture, pugs have hilarious facial expressions and are known for how comical they are. They are extremely goofy dogs, but they are also extremely intelligent. They learn quickly and smoothly, which is another reason why they're such great family pets. However, this breed basically thrives off of attention. You're going to need to be able to give your pug a lot of your time, but seeing how happy your pug is when you do give it that TLC is a reward in itself.

7. Dachshund

When I was a teenager, our mutt died and we bought a dachshund. While my mutt was great when I was a child, having a dachshund as a teenager was one of the coolest things- they are so fun. Like pugs, dachshunds have extremely big personalities and are sure to make you laugh every day. They show obvious care for their owners, love to play, and are easy-going. My family loves our dachshund so much that we want to buy another one!

8. Pitbull

Pitbulls are stereotyped to be dangerous, mean, quick-to-attack dogs but they are actually super sweet, super snuggly dogs. People raise them to be the evil animals they are portrayed to be. However, if you raise them with love just like you would any other animal, they are great pets. They are healthy, they don't require much grooming, and they look to please the ones they love. If you're looking for a pet that will undoubtedly make you and your family happy, pitbulls are the way to go.

9. Great Dane

While these dogs are giants, they are very gentle and very chilled out dogs. The only downside to owning Great Danes is that they require a lot of room to run around. It's best to have a big backyard for them to run around in, so apartments don't typically work well for this type of dog. However, if you have the room for this type of pup, you won't be disappointed by their loyalty, love, and goofy personality.

10. Maltese

Unlike Great Danes, Maltese dogs are perfect for apartments and small homes. They are respectable, they love to play, and they are great a low maintenance pet. They don't need to be taken out a lot, but they do love to play! Maltese pups are great for all ages because of how sweet and playful they are. Tip: If you decide to get a Maltese, make sure you check your fence for gaps your new puppy may be able to fit through!

11. Corgi

Corgis are lively, dependable, and obedient. Corgi's play well with other dogs, even though they are territorial, so you don't have to worry about it fighting and barking. Corgis are silly dogs and always put on a good show, so younger kids typically love them. Corgis make some of the greatest pets because they are amazing guard-dogs, but still stay true to their lovable selves!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
