Going to see Broadway shows is an amazing and expensive habit. It is a habit nonetheless and therefore, we all know you're going to do it. However, if you are going to go see a Broadway Show, you should at least know that you're going to get your money's worth. Here are a list of shows that I think are most certainly worth your money.
1. "Wicked"
For anyone that is a "Wizard of Oz" fan, you should go see "Wicked." There are always two sides to every story.
2. "Lion King"
The best thing about this show is the spectacle. Not only are the actors talented on their own but their work with the puppets adds profusely to the show.
3. "Next To Normal"
This show addresses a lot of serious issues such as mental illness and suicide, bringing attention to them in a way you wouldn't normally expect.
4. "Chicago"
A satirical look at the corrupt legal system in the 1920's, this is one of my personal favorites. The glamour of vaudeville is always appealing.
5. "Hedwig And The Angry Inch"
This show is the perfect mixture of comedy and angst. A one woman show, Hedwig tells you the story of the botched gender reassignment surgery she went through to escape East Berlin during the Cold War.
6. "Rent"
This show is a classic. Everyone who loves musical theatre should see this show.
7. "Mamma Mia"
It's ABBA's music and a great mother/daughter story. You can't go wrong.
8. "Grease"
You've definitely seen the movie, you've probably seen the live version, so why not go see it on stage?
9. "A Chorus Line"
This show gives a glimpse into the world of stage theatre. It's a harsh one.
10. "Phantom of the Opera"
"Phantom" is a Broadway classic. It is completely necessary for you to see it, if you're a Broadway fan.
11. "Les Miserables"
The combination of history and musical theater is an amazing one.
12. "Hamilton"
Again, history and musical theater. With this, just add hip-hop music and you've struck gold. Literally.
