You've been accepted. You've gotten your ID. You've been assigned your room. Congratulations, now you just have to move in! It's an exciting time, but a stressful one. Here is some advice to help it go smoothly.
When you're packing those boxes, consolidate. Squish, squeeze and stuff as much as you can into as few boxes possible. Even if you are on the first floor of the building, bringing all those things inside always seems easier until you're on the fourth or fifth trip in.

I know it's hard, but try to pack everything you'll need first on top. Depending on move-in time, you might be too tired to unpack everything. It'll be nice to be able to get to bed and finish in the morning.
Label boxes. All of them.

If you have a suite-style room, don't bring enough toilet paper for the entire semester. You can shop later. The last thing you need is half of the trunk taken up by 2-ply.
Don't bring a bunch of storage containers unless you know all the room's measurements. It will be annoying when it doesn't fit. Like I said, you can shop later.
Bring a screwdriver or a few little tools. You never know if you'll run into a problem or want to change the height of the bed, and there is a very slim chance maintenance will be available on move-in day.

If you are bringing a TV, make sure it has a long cord. The cable jack might be on the opposite side of the room where the TV fits best, just to be difficult.
The school will send you an email with your move-in time slot; be there on time. The later on in the day it is, the more congested the campus will be. Make it easier on you and whoever is helping you move in.
Don't judge anyone you meet on move-in day. Wait till the next day to get first impressions. Everyone is nervous and on edge, just like you.

Consider when you'll be taking the first trip home. Don't stock your wardrobe for all four seasons. If you have a Fall break, don't bring your winter clothes and snow boots. Take some summer clothes home and switch them out for cooler weather.
Bring all of your files. If you end up getting an on-campus job, you'll need your passport or social security card or birth certificate. If you go to the pharmacy, you'll need your health insurance card. You're living on your own now, so you need to be prepared for any paperwork that comes your way.
There is no way to approach move-in day without running into any problems, but try to keep them to a minimum so it's easier for you and whoever is moving you in. Good luck!
