Summer should be a time to kick back and relax... But also make enough money to support yourself and all of your shopping needs during the school year. If the summer job hunt wasn't hard enough, sometimes there is the off chance that you don't get the job you want. You may have lucked out and gotten the best summer job in the world. Regardless, you want to make the most of it so you can still have the fun, somewhat relaxing summer you had hoped for. Here's how to do just that:
1. Make new friends.
Making new friends can be hard at first, especially if you are stuck in your ways and you think you have enough friends. But making friends can mean that you have someone to talk to about a rough day or even grab lunch with on your lunch break.
2. Have a good attitude.
Having a good attitude is key when showing up to your new job. If you have a bad attitude while doing something, like your new job, you are less likely to enjoy the task. If you show up with a great attitude, you are more likely to enjoy the task you are performing. You also come off as more likable to your co-workers as well as your boss.
3. Be outgoing.
Don't be afraid to speak up and be the first one to volunteer for something. Don't be afraid to be loud and enthusiastic with customers or guests because chances are they will notice it and appreciate it, and next time they come back they will ask for you when they need help.
4. Don't let the bad days make you hate your job.
Everyone has a bad day once in a while. Don't let one crummy day ruin the whole job for you. When you have a bad hair day, you put a hat on and suck it up, you don't hate your hair for the rest of your life.
5. Be enthusiastic.
Enthusiasm is a core value of many jobs. Employers don't look for people with low enthusiasm and think, "Wow! We want them on our team!" Being enthusiastic makes you loved by your co-workers, your boss, and the customers and guests.
6. Love it. Even if you don't.
Many people have heard the expression "fake it till you make it." This is the same concept. Even if you genuinely don't love your job, pretend like you do. It will make your work environment more enjoyable for you as well as others around you.
7. Don't spend your whole pay check all at once.
It defeats the whole point of your summer job. Also you will be really sad, because you worked all week, then spent your whole paycheck and it feels like you didn't get anything out of it.
8. Make use of your employee benefits.
Some jobs have some really sweet discounts. Make sure you take advantage of them and get the most out of your job benefits.
9. Eat a good breakfast.
If you have to work in the mornings, make sure you eat before you go in. Not eating leads to crankiness, and that'll never be good in the work place. Eat a good breakfast so you aren't hungry and crabby until lunch.
10. Know your stuff.
If you don't know what you are talking about while on the job, the customers and guests will notice and it will make you look bad. Make sure you know what you are talking about before answering questions. Also, make sure you ask questions yourself if you don't understand something. Ask your boss and they will definitely be more than willing to answer.
11. Make the most of it.
It is only a summer job, after all.
