Megan Reznicek

Hello, my name is Megan Reznicek and I'm a flowerholic. OK, but seriously I absolutely love flowers! I know that a lot of people enjoy the look and smell of flowers but see them as a waste because of their cost and short longevity. Perhaps though, its time to rethink ways you can use flowers. So, here are some unique and vase-less uses for flowers.

1. Flower mandalas

Transform the flowers in your garden into artwork by pressing them in books and then creating a geometric pattern with them. Add the mandala to a frame and make it wall art!

2. Wax sachet

A few weeks ago I saw these interesting things at a cute bookstore. I soon found out that they are called wax sachets

and I decided that rather than paying $8 for one of them I would instead try to make my own. These were so fun and relatively easy to diy.

3. Long lasting decor

One way to preserve the beauty of flowers is drying them. Simply tie an arrangement together and hany them upside down in a room that won't let in too much moisture. The flowers will retain their beautiful colors and gain a vintage look to them.

4. Flare to your hair

Without a doubt putting flowers in my hair is my favorite things to do with them. Flowers have the wonderful power to spice up any hairstyle you're wearing whether you choose to wear a flower crown or simply tuck a single blossom behind your ear.

5. Pest repellent

There are actually plenty of ways to repel pest besides using chemical pesticides. Planting chrysanthemums and lavender in your garden is one of the many natural ways to keep away bugs and other pests.

6. Cooking

I know this sounds completely crazy but you can incorporate flowers into some of your food dishes. When I was searching flowers that are edible I came across a great article with some unique recipes

using flowers as one of the ingredients. Someday I will definitely try to make one of them.

7. Flower pendant necklaces

These pendant necklaces

are so beautiful whether you choose to buy them or diy them. What fascinates me about these is the the ability to save a flower in time and keep it forever.

8. Candles

With the help of essential oils and a diverse assortment of wax from the local craft store, candle making has never been easier! Make your pleasantly scented candle visually pleasant as well by adding some flowers to the mix. Everyone will be envious of your fragrant and aesthetically pleasing candle.

9. Garnish a cake

I know that this is popular with wedding cakes, but why can't it be done to normal cakes as well? Every cake deserves to be beautiful.

10. Body Scrub

I am in love with this idea. Who ever thought of combining flower petals and body scrub

deserves some kind of reward.

11. Bookmarks

Calling all bookworms! If you're anything like me then you can never have too many bookmarks. This is the perfect way to create a bookmark that you will actually make the effort to keep.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
