During one’s time a Providence College, the rules that are set forth by the College will be fully understood. Quiet hours, parietals, and guest registration are some of the few that we as students need to know. But there are some rules that are not in the handbook and need to be enforced on all students. Here are a few I thought of.
1. Don’t tease the ghosts of Aquinas Hall
Whether or not Aquinas is haunted is up for speculation; but if it were infested with ghosts, I sure wouldn’t want to mess with them. For all those who want to test their luck, tread lightly.
2. Explore the campus
For freshmen, I want you to know more about the campus than your dorm to your classes and to Eaton Street. Providence’s campus is beautiful and unique, and I want all of you to experience it. From the koi pond to the quads, PC is a place that you should explore and find places that you love.
3. Play in the snow
Snow days are a big part of going to a school in New England because they happen frequently. We get around four days where it will snow, so one needs to take advantage of them. On snow days I should see everyone in the snow because snow gives us an opportunity to relax and take a break from school.
4. Don’t be a slow walker
To put it in simple terms: don’t be the person who is in front of me moving slower than a building. If you are a slow walker in front of me, you probably don’t notice my anger brewing because you are preventing me from getting to class on time.
5. Order less than two milkshakes on Milkshake Wednesday at McPhail’s
Now this is for two of my roommates who work in McPhail’s. We, as students on the other side of the bar, do not know the pain of having to constantly make milkshakes for two and a half hours. I think we should be kind and not be the person to ask for seven milkshakes with all different flavors and toppings.
6. Be quick in the Dunkin' Donuts line
Looking at the camera, I see that the line sometimes stretching out past the bookstore. For the people in the back of the line, don’t take too long to order your coffee and goody - or face the wrath of students who need their caffeine.
7. Be careful of PC squirrels
They seem harmless, but they have no fear of the student body. Watch out for those squirrels because they could get you one day.
8. Watch out for Dore Hall
No need for explanation; we all know why. Although there is going to be a new building there, watch out in that building, too.
9. Don’t step in the circle
Legend has it the circle outside the chapel has the power to make students fail civ, get girls pregnant, and have you not graduate. This is a legend that has been around the PC campus, and it is deadly to step on that circle.
10. Don’t yell during Super Bingo
One thing everyone hates while trying to win a big TV is someone yelling out bingo and actually not having bingo. Students get so competitive that the slightest peep could start a riot, so just avoid talking in general at these events.
11. Get a little wild at Civ Scream
I’m not condoning burning stuff or streaking, but going to the mosh pit that is Civ Scream is necessary as a sophomore to celebrate the ending of Civ. Be safe and be part of the community in having a mini-riot on the quad.
