The Sydney Institute

Graduating High school is a huge step in your life. It is the time where you are becoming a real adult and learning how to take care of yourself. Some people will go off to college and some will stay at home, either way, there are some very important things you need realize before you graduate and grow up.

1. Enjoy the sporting events

Those Friday night football games are not the same when they are at 4 o’clock on Saturday afternoon. So embrace those games because they will not last forever.

2. Take advantage of seeing your friends

Not seeing your friends every day is awful and something that takes time to get used too. Take advantage of seeing them every day and don’t take it for granted that they are always around.

3. Make good study habits

I cannot stress this enough, make good study habits! I know all the teachers and your parents are telling you to study, but if you start now I promise college will be so much easier.

4. Start saving your money now

Start saving your money now because the more money you have in high school means the more fun you can have in college.

5. Don't be afraid to be different

There is nothing wrong with being different and your own kind of person. People might judge you in high school, but I can promise you that no one cares in college.

6. Don't worry about one bad grade

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT worry about that one bad grade you got in a class or that one bad grade you got on a test. Those do not define your life; you can make it up in those college classes that you actually want to take.

7. Wardrobe doesn't matter

You might think that people care about what you are wearing, but I promise it doesn’t matter. In college, no one cares if you are wearing sweats and hair up because everyone else is.

8. Spend time with family

Don’t take your family for granted. Even though you know that they will always be there for you, try to hang out with them as much as possible because you will miss them like crazy when you are off at college.

9. Drama is stupid

There are three words that are very important, DRAMA IS STUPID! Don’t get caught up in all of those stupid rumors and think that they are going to ruin your life. The minute you graduate everything changes and no one cares what you are doing.

10. Growing up is hard

You need to realize that growing up is very hard, it is not easy as we all thought when we were little. In high school, all you want to do is grow up and move away but growing up is not fun and games all the time. So remember to slow down and enjoy all those crazy nights.

11. Hang out with your parents

The last thing that no one thinks is cool in high school is to hang with your parents. You might think it is lame to hang out with the rents on the weekend, but within the next couple years, you are going to miss them like crazy and wish that you could hang with them more.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
