11 Things You Need At The Beach This Summer
Emily Lauzon

Summertime is usually filled with friends, fun and of course the beach. Even though summer is starting to come to a close there’s still time to soak up some sun and enjoy the last weeks of freedom by the water. Here’s 11 things you need at the beach this summer.

1. Sunblock

If you’re like me, it doesn’t take very long to achieve that perfect shade of red while relaxing on the beach. Make sure you have and use sunblock because let me tell you, coming home and realizing you look just like a lobster isn’t really that fun.

2. Towel or Beach Chair

Personally, I think having both a towel and a beach chair is the way to go. Nothing is worse than sitting on a sandy towel after coming out of the water. This way you have a nice clean towel to dry off with, sand free.

3. Sunglasses

These are an absolute must for the beach. Without sunglasses you’re stuck squinting at everything and everyone because it is so sunny at the beach. Do not forget these when packing your beach bag.

4. Book

Especially for those of you who do not want to crack open into your dreaded summer reading, the beach is a good place to attempt to start some of it. It’s much easier do something school related while listening to the waves crash on the sand.

5. Food

All that swimming and getting knocked over by waves can take a lot out of you so make sure to bring lots of food to keep you going. There’s something to be said about eating a sandwich on a beach, it’s way better than anywhere else.

6. Water

Hydration is key! Make sure you drink tons of water, especially when you’re in the sun for hours. You do not want to be dehydrated in the hot sun, trust me.

7. Hat

I usually don’t wear a ton of hats but at the beach they’re life savers. They keep the sun off your face and neck, which are the absolute worst places to get sunburn.

8. Umbrella

To stick with the theme of ways to get out of the sun, bring an umbrella to the beach! This way multiple people can prevent sunburn and enjoy the beach all at the same time.

9. Flip Flops

There are no shoes better for the beach than flip flops. Why some people wear other shoes to the beach I will never understand, but these are a definite must. The sand can get hot so these are good when you’re lugging all your stuff back to your car and don’t want your feet to feel like they’re on fire.

10. Boogie Board

My personal favorite thing to do while at the beach is ride the waves so boogie boards are extremely important. It’s so fun to catch a wave and ride it in all the way to the shore.

11. Radio/Speaker

Radios and speakers are great and are definitely something I would recommend you bring to the beach. It’s nice to be relaxing on the beach and listening to some music with your friends.

Even though summer is coming to a close, get out there and enjoy the last few weeks at the beach soaking up the sun!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
