One of the worst first-world problems is waiting for the microwave. Time literally feels like it is standing still. At times I get anxious and I don't know what to do because it feels as though a century has passed before my food is ready. If you are in the same boat as me, I have a few things that can help take your mind off of the food cooking in the microwave.
1. Get in a workout

2. Clean out your purse/backpack
Another thing you have needed to do for a while. It’s a treacherous place, but you know it will take your mind off the fact that your stomach is rumbling and the microwave time is at a standstill. Plus the odds are you’ll find at least four things you lost at the beginning of the semester.
3. Chug a glass or two of water
This one might sound weird. But hydration is important! There are more than a handful of times where I drink less than my required amount of H2O, and I know at least some of you do too. Plus it will fill up your stomach for at least 15 minutes and make you forget you are waiting a century on food to cook.
4. Write a cute note and leave it on the fridge

5. Eat a snack

6. Learn a new language

7. Write a book
Similar to learning a new language. This is something that many people say they want to accomplish in their lives. Just apply every microwave minute to writing intently and you are bound to complete something worthy of reading.
8. Look outside of a window
People-watching is one of the best ways to pass time. Look out your kitchen window and you are sure to see something.
9. See how long you can do a hand/head stand
This one will take you back to your childhood. All of the blood will most likely rush to your head but it’s all in good fun. It’s not your fault that the microwave takes a hundred years.
10. Call the grandparents
You will get bonus points for calling them first and they will keep you occupied because they will stay on the phone for hours with you. Plus grandparents tend to have some crazy stories.
11. Make up your own language.
This is something you do with a sibling or significant other that lives with you. Making up a language that only the two of you understand, it is entertaining, challenging and will take time.
Hopefully by the time you do all of the things listed above, the microwave will go off.
