Whether you are a freshman or a fifth-year senior, the craziness of the first week of the fall semester seems to take its toll. It's the same every year. From move-in, classes, and our first nights out of town to kick off the semester, here are just a few of the common occurrences that pop up in the first week of classes

It is virtually impossible to get anywhere on time because of how slow people are walking

Everyone will walk in large groups, take pictures of the pond, and wonder where the heck they are going. Just give up on trying to make it to your lecture on time.

You are constantly reminded of that one famous person who went to your school

YES! Daniel Tosh went to this school. He ate this sandwich and was also scared of our vicious squirrels. We get it!

Someone will stop you in your path and ask you to rush a fraternity/sorority

I just want to cross campus without having to politely decile an invitation to join the sisterhood of Kappa Kappa Whatever every ten feet. I have places to be.

Syllabus week will create the illusion that this semester will be super easy and your professor will be 100% rational

Everything seems all honky-dory before actual lectures start. Due dates are right around the corner, but I'm going to just ignore them as usual and act like I had no idea in the next week or two.

You'll have that one professor that begins to lecture on the first day.

I thought we were just going over the syllabus. What is this 'actual work' stuff you speak of?

You will realize exactly how unprepared you are.

You don't have pens, paper, and you haven't even ordered the textbook yet. The cold realization of your irresponsibility will haunt you.

You won't know where one of your classes is.

You could be a student for years, know the campus like the back of your hand, but at some point, you'll have a class that is located in some dark alley in the middle of campus that you have never needed before.

You will actually go to the gym... and so will everyone else.

The school gym is never as packed in the following weeks as it is in the first week of school. but hey, if you stick with it it won't be as crowded.

You will spend your first night going out and partying.

As soon as everything is unpacked it is off to the nearest pub, house party, etc.

You will realize that you are an actual adult with real adult responsibilities.

What do you mean I have to pay rent?

You realize you forgot to pack the ONE essential item o your list: your mom.

Who else is going to explain how to properly load a dishwasher.

The beginning of the semester can be a pretty hectic time for students. Lines are long, parking is a nightmare, and don't get me started on the shuttle services. With that said, the start of a new semester, whether it is your first or fiftieth, can be very exciting. I wish everyone a great semester and don't do anything I would do.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
