Ah, Halloween. A day full of ghosts, monsters, clowns, and other terrifying creatures. What's not to love? However, there are much, much scarier things than the monsters you'll encounter on Halloween...and these are things we encounter everyday.
1. Your Bank Account
Do I have $10 or $100? I don't know, I hide the amount whenever I have to log in because I'm so scared.
2. Getting Kicked Off Your Parents' Health Insurance
Hope I never get sick, because I sure as hell can't afford my own insurance/a visit to the doctor!
3. Having an Adult Job
Say you get a "real job" at age 22. This means most of us will have to work AT LEAST another 43 years before we can even think about retiring. Forty. three. years.
4. 401(k)s
What even is that? How much do I have to put away for that? When do I start? I can barely pay my own bills, how am I supposed to put more money aside for this thing?
5. Loans
Once you graduate, you start getting nice little emails that it's time to start paying back your student loans! Yay! Hope you were able to land a well-paying job right out of college so you can start using that money to pay for the loans you needed to take in order to get said well-paying job!
6. Bills
Car payments, rent, electricity, water....the list goes on. Every time I get a bill in the mail, I am more terrified of that dollar amount than I am of anything I see on Halloween.
7. Taxes
I still have no idea how to do my own taxes. I wouldn't even know where to start. All I know is that the tax forms look horrifying and I just want the tax return.
8. Family
I love my family. We all do. But they can be scary...really scary. Like when they grill us on our jobs/relationship status/life. And when they hit us with the slightly disappointed look when you answer, "I don't know" to most of their questions.
9. Food
Gone are the days of mom or dad cooking a well-balanced meal for you. It's also no longer acceptable to grab fast food every night because you're drowning in homework/exams. Cooking for yourself is pretty terrifying if your two specialties are pancakes and macaroni and cheese.
10. Distance
If you didn't land a job in your college town or hometown, you're probably far away from friends and family, which can be pretty frightening. New city, who dis?
11. ADULTING IS SCARY
It's way scarier than Halloween. I'm halfway adulting and I feel like I'm just kind of guessing my way through everything. If I decided to dress up as a bill for Halloween, I think I'd scare most recent college graduates more than if I dressed up as a clown.
