11 Things I Want My Little Sisters To Know

Tonight, as I was thinking about a few different article ideas, I asked my family if they had any ideas. My lovely little sister came up with, "100 Reasons Why I Should Be Famous," to which she added "even Obama would want to read that." It reminded me how lucky I am to be a big sister. Even though there are more days that I want to kill them, my sisters are two of the most important people in my life, and I know I have been given two unconditional best friends for the rest of my life. I am so lucky to be able to be a role model for them even if they refuse to admit they look up to me, and I am forever thankful for all the lessons they have taught me. But there are a few things I do need to say since you won't listen to me if I try to say it in person.

1. Stop growing up.

Can we go back to when we were this little and had matching dresses?

It makes me feel so old to see you growing up, putting makeup on, looking at colleges, everything. Also, it's so much harder to introduce you as my little sister when you're taller than me.

2. Thank you for making fun of Mom and Dad with me.

It's way more fun to laugh about their bad jokes and Dad's weird singing habits when you do it with me.

3. Thanks for not being a messy brother.

Not having to deal with the mess of a brother, and putting the seat down is the best thing about growing up with sisters.

4. Learn from my mistakes.

How I'm sure you look when you read that.

Be nicer to Mom and Dad, you'll regret being mean and picking fights. Eventually. I promise. Pick up your room, keep the car clean. Don't text and drive. The boy isn't worth it. Trying to be the mean girl's friend is never worth it. All that older sister stuff.

5. Watching television on a school night is a recipe for disaster.

It's never just one more episode, and homework will always be more important. You'll regret not doing it when you lose sleep or miss a fun event to get your work done.

6. You are exceptionally good at irritating me.

But remember that I know just how to irritate you as well, and sometimes when two of us team up it's a whole lot worse.

7. Sometimes I'm jealous of you.

Even though moving is a pain, its given you a lot of opportunities I would have loved to have. Remember that and thank Mom and Dad -- sometimes.

8. Thanks for being honest with me.

Even when you were brutally honest, I'm glad you never let me out of the house in an ugly shirt or in ugly makeup.

9. Thanks for knowing how to make me laugh.

Thanks for knowing exactly what old family memory would make me laugh, and sharing some of the best parts of my childhood with me.

10. Thanks for being a constant in my life.

Through every move, change, hard time and good time, you have always been there for me. Even with the years between us you have made my life mean so much more and I am so lucky to have you two.

11. I love you unconditionally.

I am so lucky to have you two as sisters and best friends. I can't wait to watch you both grow up more and I look forward to making fun of you along every step of the way. I know you both have such bright futures ahead of you and I look forward to seeing you shine.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
