Working in the food service industry has been quite an experience for me, and I have learned a lot about myself and about others. For example...
1. I have very little patience for people.
Sounds fun right? Though I rate the highest in customer service, there are sometimes those customers that I just can't deal with.
2. The Customer Isn't Always Right.
But we have to pretend they are anyway. This is the hardest thing I've had to deal with because I'm so argumentative, so sometimes you just want to throw their Jetty Punch back in their face.
3. You'll Make Amazing Friends.
Whether its your co-workers or the customers your serving, they will be the reason you enjoy what you do.
4. Everything that can go wrong, will.
Every shift, every shift.
5. Sometimes you will want to sit on the floor and cry.
Sometimes it gets so busy that you just give up, and that is okay, just as long as you get back up 30 seconds later.
6. It is not all bad.
You'll have the terrible shifts and then you'll have the great ones. Like the closes where you and your co-workers start belting Nicki Minaj.
7. Customer complaints are the death of me.
"You poisoned my mom..."
Can you refer me to the part in the employee handbook where it tells me how to handle that?
8. Health Inspectors = Anxiety.
The worst thing that could ever happen to you is the department of health. They will make you want to run far, far away.
9. Service with a smile goes a long way.
Customers will actually notice when you look happy at work, and it makes a huge difference in the whole atmosphere of the store.
10. It is all consuming.
I never realized up until recent how much of my life is taken up by working, but I may like it a little.
11. It will be a rewarding experience.
At the end of the day you realize that you have met great people and get to meet a lot of new people. It will be a job you remember for awhile to come.
So my friends, as much as we may complain about it, let us go fourth in our efforts to serve. After all, it is our job right?
