11 Things I Learned From 'Star Wars'
Wonderful Engineering

I love "Star Wars." I love "Star Wars" so much. Ever since my parents sat me down when I was in kindergarten to first watch "A New Hope," I've been hooked. In my decade (give or take a few years) of being a "Star Wars" enthusiast, I've amassed quite the collection of memorabilia. I have way too many shirts. I'll admit it, I have so many "Star Wars" shirts that I could wear only "Star Wars" shirts for a month straight. I have a Darth Vader onesie that I actually wear around campus. I have Yoda and Darth Vader slippers for walking around my dorm. I have lightsabers for dueling. I have posters, books, and all the movies. I've watched the mythical "Star Wars Holiday Special." I follow the amazing Mark Hamill on Instagram who is hilarious and is such an awesome dude! I even have the soundtrack for "The Empire Strikes Back" on vinyl. Oh, and I saw "The Force Awakens" in theaters four times. The first time I saw it I made sure I was wearing my Vader onesie and Yoda Vans. I would be lying if I told you that I didn't cry like ten times during the movie. It was an emotional experience, that's for sure.

Anyhoo, you get the point. I'm obsessed with "Star Wars." Any sane person should be, in my opinion.

I grew up on "Star Wars," so it's only natural for me to be influenced by the movies. I actually learned a lot from watching these movies as I was growing up. Here are my top 11 things I've learned from "Star Wars." Enjoy!

1. Do not go around kissing strange people. Y'all could be related and never know it!

2. Being a rebel/ not following orders is not always a bad thing. In this instance, they are actually the good guys.

3. The importance of self-defense. You never know when someone is going to pick a fight with you.

4. Bad guys don't always wear black.

5. Most of the time they do, though.

6. Dogs are man's best friend.

7. When something is in a series of three, its probably going to be really, really awesome.

8. Don't be anyone's slave.

9. The bigger they are, the more awesome the explosion.

10. If you have a good idea, then market the crap out of it because people will definitely buy it.

Ahem, me.

11. My head is buzzing with excitement from "The Force Awakens" out on DVD, "Rogue One" coming to theaters soon, and "Episode VIII" in the making. Seeing all the nostalgia in "The Force Awakens" made me want to re-watch the originals and refresh my memory so I wouldn't miss anything in the new movies. So, the last thing I learned from "Star Wars" is to appreciate originals. Hint: They are usually the best. Not always, but most of the time.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
