Staying organized through the craziness of day-to-day life can sometimes become a burden or near impossible. However, there are little ways to stay organized in the office, the classroom, and at home. It’ll make your life easier to manage and help you feel more productive too!
1. Make a To-Do list.
This one may be obvious, but To-Do lists are the easiest and most simple way to stay organized. You can use a sticky note, a piece of notebook paper, or pick up some cute stationery from your local Target to keep your tasks in line. Also, it feels really nice to check things off of your list!
2. Use paper clips and Post-It flags.
Paper clips and Post-It flags are great for labeling and grouping your documents together. Whether it's paperwork for your job, scholarship information, or an assignment for a class, your stuff will stay together accordingly.
3. Clean your spaces regularly.
Productivity sometimes comes with messiness. Cleaning and decluttering your workspace will also help organize your brain space too! Straighten up notes and desk decorations, make your bed, and clean up anything lying around. Also, a nice smelling candle or defuser will help brighten up your spaces!
4. Make binders and folders your best friend.
Folders and binders are key when keeping things together. Although it's not usually required, an organized binder will keep you ahead of the rest of the classroom and the office. Labels and dividers can also be put to good use as well!
5. Color code EVERYTHING!
This is 100% optional, but I always find myself using certain colors for my different aspects of life. For example, use one for extracurriculars, one for assignments, and another for miscellaneous. If you keep a planner, using colored pens also makes things more organized.
6. Set aside time to work ahead on deadlines.
Nothing is more stressful than doing something last minute. If you have a chunk of free time, dedicate it to working ahead. You'll definitely thank yourself for doing so later.
7. Nest To-Do lists
If you have a load of work to accomplish, create a "master" To-Do list and break everything down into smaller tasks. Checking off the easy things makes you feel more productive and helps you get through the larger tasks.
8. Use a planner accustomed to your style.
Some people like online planners like Google Calendar, while others like printed ones. I'm a planner addict and don't know what I'd do without mine. I always highly recommend the Erin Condren Life Planner™ for those who are planner crazy as well. You can personalize it to your style and taste, and it's very sturdy to get through your day to day affairs.
9. Reminders!!
It took me way too long to realize this, but the Reminders app on your iPhone is one of the most helpful apps. You can set reminders for certain times and locations. It's helpful when you need extra emphasis on deadlines and things that need to be done. It's also great for when you don't want to forget something when you arrive somewhere like home, school, or work.
10. Let people help you, if possible.
We've all been there. Somethings you hit a brick wall and feel like it's impossible to get things done when they need to be. Call a friend or family member to help you, if possible. They can help you study, be an idea board for an assignment or presentation, or can help you with chores/housekeeping as well!
11. Don't drown yourself in work.
One thing to help keep your life organized is to not take on too much at once. Know your limits, and take things as they come. If you get overwhelmed, things tend to spiral out of control and it's difficult to get a grip on things again. Being organized is essential to a productive life! Don't let yourself get lazy or swamped!
