11 Things That Happen When You Find Your People

You may not realize it, but all of these things happen when you're essentially inseparable.

11 Things That Happen When You Find Your People

College is weird.

I mean think about it. Suddenly, you're thrown into an environment filled with new people from different backgrounds and expected to live life, like... normal. And make... friends.

Have you ever thought of it like that?

But the cool thing about the friends you make is they become your cuddle buddies, your confidants, and your sisters. And all these other things happen, too

1. They know the code to your complex and walk right in

Whether it's a swipe, key code, or key, they know it and have no problem using it frequently.

2. You have your important dates and their important dates on your calendar

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2017%2F01%2F30%2F6362134345294563221875827082_200-2.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=582&h=c007f961f7382a691583d9addc20e831fc7ff634852f3bbde5209617ed73c8aa&size=980x&c=3346845184 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2017%252F01%252F30%252F6362134345294563221875827082_200-2.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D582%26h%3Dc007f961f7382a691583d9addc20e831fc7ff634852f3bbde5209617ed73c8aa%26size%3D980x%26c%3D3346845184%22%7D" expand=1]

Well, I mean you have to support each other, right?? And chances are you were going anyway.

3. You never really stop talking, it's kind of just a continual conversation with intermissions

It might be quiet from like 1am to 9am, but that's just so you can rest your thumbs.

4. You know their class schedule

Well, duh. It's also probably really similar to yours anyway. Or they're in your class. (This was taken when our professor was telling us to put our phones away, lol sorry not sorry)

5. You know their phone passcodes

How else are you every going to get that cute photo you guys took, or block the boy your girl won't get over??

6. Your parents ask about them

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2017%2F01%2F30%2F636213451520952449-34920909_200-7.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=415&h=fb9bd84c942e14bf58a9307ace034fa0b46f8c1e3a89c672836036ed5db08fca&size=980x&c=1931697019 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2017%252F01%252F30%252F636213451520952449-34920909_200-7.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D415%26h%3Dfb9bd84c942e14bf58a9307ace034fa0b46f8c1e3a89c672836036ed5db08fca%26size%3D980x%26c%3D1931697019%22%7D" expand=1]

My mom asks about my girls daily and sends them stuff. She basically adopted them. And their mom's adopted me too.

7. They take crazy adventures with you.

Whether it's trekking for ice cream at 3am, or heading to a championship game in another state-- you can't imagine it without them

8. You know you drive each other crazy, but remind yourself it is out of love.

Yeah, they may have texted you 15 times in a row, and it definitely drives you crazy, but the minute you guys are together all is forgiven.

9. You can finish each other's sentences[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2017%2F01%2F30%2F636213445415751464-1256922444_200-5.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=8&h=51c3828f9ef69d586ec432bc4366921209b5cb233c9bfe9aeca3231841884a04&size=980x&c=2648657207 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2017%252F01%252F30%252F636213445415751464-1256922444_200-5.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D8%26h%3D51c3828f9ef69d586ec432bc4366921209b5cb233c9bfe9aeca3231841884a04%26size%3D980x%26c%3D2648657207%22%7D" expand=1]

The first time it happens, it might feel super creepy, but the feeling of someone being totally on your wavelength is pretty amazing.

10. You've got each other's backs.

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2017%2F01%2F30%2F636213445715794099-1223590909_200-1.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=79&h=1978bfef9ee0558994b6c119bcf9cc311eb31aa6700d5f954c098e83e3d08886&size=980x&c=3359101699 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2017%252F01%252F30%252F636213445715794099-1223590909_200-1.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D79%26h%3D1978bfef9ee0558994b6c119bcf9cc311eb31aa6700d5f954c098e83e3d08886%26size%3D980x%26c%3D3359101699%22%7D" expand=1]

Another girl is talking smack at the bar, you know you've got the back up you need to shut her down. You also have the back up you need to talk to the cute boy, and to eat your 5th cookie. They got you.

11. You know them inside and out

You know exactly how much sugar and milk go into their coffee, and what TV show they're bingeing. Whether it's a look of excitement or terror, together you can read any situation and do what's best. You know what makes them happy, what makes them cry, everything. You. Know. Them.

Back to my initial question: have you ever thought of it like that? College?

I have. And the only reason is because I have these girls next to me.

Dear College Students, Are You Undecided?

Up until last week, I always had a major. I was an international business major, finance major, psych major on the pre-medicine track… and now (finally) I am exactly where I should have been when I started college: undecided. I think there is too much pressure as a high school student to have a designated path about what you want to study, be when you 'grow up' and essentially spend the rest of your life doing. As an 18-year-old, I really feel like I tried to pin myself down to a major so that I had a set path to follow and something to look towards. This is probably very conventional and I know tons of people at school who have their minds made up about what they want to study.

Life Is Messy

Finding who you are in your 20s

Life Is Messy

I am 25 years old and just now learning who I am. When I separated from my husband I was terrified of what would follow. I did not know who I was outside of a relationship, nor did I know how to be on my own. It was scary, and I was so lost. I spent months discovering who I was, and what I wanted to be. I am still searching as I believe we never truly know who we are even when we "grow up". I came to the realization that I had been hiding a part of myself for my entire life. Coming out was not easy, growing up in the church made it scary, and hard. I was told growing up that being anything but straight was such a sin, and that i would spent my life in hell because of it. I came out to my parents when I was 25 years old. I picked up the phone and called my mom, and uttered the words "I'm queer" through tears. I knew my parents would be supportive, but that didn't make it any easier for me to vulnerable and raw. Since then, I have slowly started being more authentic in who I am, and not hide parts of me just because of people's shitty opinions.

Alone At The Met

I survive a day alone in NYC.

It was six in the evening. I was sitting in the courtyard of a Renaissance-era Italian villa, glancing around at the statues, most notably one of a boy removing a thorn from his foot. Despite the supposedly relaxing setting, I was incredibly anxious. My phone was at less than 5 percent battery, and once it died I would be completely disconnected from my family and peers, alone in one of the largest art museums in the country.
