11 Things That Happen When You Find Your People

College is weird.

I mean think about it. Suddenly, you're thrown into an environment filled with new people from different backgrounds and expected to live life, like... normal. And make... friends.

Have you ever thought of it like that?

But the cool thing about the friends you make is they become your cuddle buddies, your confidants, and your sisters. And all these other things happen, too

1. They know the code to your complex and walk right in

Whether it's a swipe, key code, or key, they know it and have no problem using it frequently.

2. You have your important dates and their important dates on your calendar

Well, I mean you have to support each other, right?? And chances are you were going anyway.

3. You never really stop talking, it's kind of just a continual conversation with intermissions

It might be quiet from like 1am to 9am, but that's just so you can rest your thumbs.

4. You know their class schedule

Well, duh. It's also probably really similar to yours anyway. Or they're in your class. (This was taken when our professor was telling us to put our phones away, lol sorry not sorry)

5. You know their phone passcodes

How else are you every going to get that cute photo you guys took, or block the boy your girl won't get over??

6. Your parents ask about them

My mom asks about my girls daily and sends them stuff. She basically adopted them. And their mom's adopted me too.

7. They take crazy adventures with you.

Whether it's trekking for ice cream at 3am, or heading to a championship game in another state-- you can't imagine it without them

8. You know you drive each other crazy, but remind yourself it is out of love.

Yeah, they may have texted you 15 times in a row, and it definitely drives you crazy, but the minute you guys are together all is forgiven.

9. You can finish each other's sentences

The first time it happens, it might feel super creepy, but the feeling of someone being totally on your wavelength is pretty amazing.

10. You've got each other's backs.

Another girl is talking smack at the bar, you know you've got the back up you need to shut her down. You also have the back up you need to talk to the cute boy, and to eat your 5th cookie. They got you.

11. You know them inside and out

You know exactly how much sugar and milk go into their coffee, and what TV show they're bingeing. Whether it's a look of excitement or terror, together you can read any situation and do what's best. You know what makes them happy, what makes them cry, everything. You. Know. Them.

Back to my initial question: have you ever thought of it like that? College?

I have. And the only reason is because I have these girls next to me.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
