Being a communications media major is truly a wonderful thing. I would not be constantly writing about it otherwise. Unfortunately, some people will ask, or say, the most anger-inducing things. It is frustrating to hear some of these phrases or questions constantly. Here are 11 things that communications majors are sick and tired of hearing.
1. What even is communications?
This is a valid question, but it's still frustrating to be asked it a few times a day.
2. Why did you choose that as your major?
I declared it because I want a career in that field.
3. It's going to be so hard to find a job after you graduate.
That may be, but I'll let my portfolio speak for itself.
4. You're not going to make any money.
I might, I might not. At least I'll be doing something that I love.
5. Your classes are probably so easy.
Yeah, it may seem like it, but shooting, editing, mixing, designing or whatever else I may be doing is tedious and time consuming.
6. You are wasting your time and money.
No, I'm really not. I'm here studying to get a good job in a field I love. (Seriously this comment kills me every time.)
7. You definitely could not have handled a real major.
What do you mean a "real" major. Comm. media is a real major, otherwise it wouldn't be offered at all.
8. I like my fries hot and crispy.
So, before you were asking how I was going to get a job. Now you're just implying that I won't. That's cool. What does this even have to do with my major? Why do I constantly hear this?
9. Are you going to be on the news one day?
I won't be, but other comm. media majors might be. A good majority of them will be behind the camera though.
10. So you're basically studying how to communicate with people.
I'm studying all types of media. Sure, talking to people and sharing ideas is a part of any job in the field, but I'm looking into and learning how to shape the world with media that I make.
11. Good luck with that.
Thanks. I really don't need your luck though.
